please tell me the name of that wolfstar author with slow burn fics? i haven't read that pairing in ages but i NEED good new long fic to read.
If you want good long fics then you have got to read montparnasse @ ao3. She is possibly one of the best authors that I have read. I have a lot of authors that I admire and find to be incredibly talented, but I think montparnasse has the best vocabulary and descriptives that I have ever come upon. I don’t know how she doesn’t run out of words or ways to describe emotions but they just flow together effortlessly and imploringly.
Also, most of her fics average 20k, it’s incredible. I never come to portions of her fics where I think they could have been edited out or that the story drags for too long. They just keep going and I never want them to end. Her dialogue is also just as good as her descriptives, which is rare for most authors. Personally, I think she has the best voice for Remus & Sirius that I’ve found since the Shoebox Project. Their banter is brilliant, and their arguments are cutting without being overtly cruel or melodramatic.
I could go on and on about her writing. I love that Sirius & Remus’ personalities almost become canon in her own verse, where she’ll have specific habits reoccurring throughout her fics.
She also writes sex scenes in a way that I’ve never seen before. There’s a lot of dialogue between the characters, confessions of love describing specific moments in their lives together and it’s never sappy - just honest and naked and that much more emotional. It’s just two people expressing their love to one another with both words and touch. I remember reading in one of her tumblr posts ( @montpahrnah ) that she can’t write a sex scene until 10k in (or something like that). Character development is key to her storytelling and I am full of such painful longing reading her slow burns.
Anyway, some of my favs are:
- Leave the Children Behind - the most incredible slow burn you will ever read. Some of the best dialogue I’ve ever read with these two as well.
- Amateur Cartography - I avoided this one for the longest time bc it starts as a breakup fic and I wasn’t having that. Turns out I’m a big baby and the point of the fic is them healing and coming together. Fucking read this.
- This is Not Your Year - this is a slow burn of sexual tension. And there is a part of the story where it is so palpable, so tense, that I sat there biting my knuckles thinking that at any moment one of them was either going to kill the other or jump them. Once again, the dialogue, fuck.
- Elucidation Practice - probably the least angsty of all that I’ve read so far. Oh and it’s a christmas ficish! Read this one tonight. ^^
