Whistling Duck Family by Lutfi Shedraway Via Flickr: Whistling ducks at rest, two asleep and two on guards! Whistling ducks are plentiful in Orlando, Florida. We have hundreds of these around the lake behind my backyard. Also, we had an elderly lady who went out and started throwing them seeds thinking she is feeding them. This lady was eventually warned by the Wildlife Reserve as she was aiding the ducks to develop a bad habit forming, in relying on feed vs. natural food gathering, and in the process some stopped migrating. Eventually the Florida animals control made it totally unpleasant for these birds to stay around by chasing them and making it uneasy to stay put. So, they went back to their old ways to migrate as usual.
