harry potter is a little privileged and that’s okay
I watched that “Adults Read Harry Potter For the First Time” video from BuzzFeed and on of the readers said she thought Harry was really privileged. A lot of people in the comments were offended by her statement, but I didn’t think she was entirely off-base.
I’m not saying privilege is a positive thing or that Harry is spoiled and shouldn’t get as much help as he got, but just that he is given a lot of opportunities and there isn’t anything wrong with that in my opinion.
Harry Potter is a little bit privileged. That's something we have to internalize and accept. But that in no way discredits his struggles and the tough-as-shit life he's lead in any way. He is very fortunate as he is unfortunate. That's life. People do feel bad for him and often pitty him, giving him special treatment. Sometimes he realizes it and loathes it because he just wants to be a normal kid, and other times he's completely clueless to it. It's just facts.
I fucking adore that boy like a son and I personally would show him favoritism out the wazoo. Is it fair? Probably not. But hey, I'm a faulty human. And so are the characters in the books. Which is why I love them.
