aria and the duets have been bffsies since the day they were born
the duets are her hype squad
theyve never disagreed on anything before
which is cute but also terrible because theyre her Enablers
"aria's smarter than we are so she must always be right on everything!" *aria makes a massive life-ruining mistake* "wow haha thats weird and also changes nothing"
Scones: DOESN'T ARIA GET THEM KILLED?
y e p
they also contributed to alex's emotional torment
because they would usually be part of aria's Demean Routine
"you're a failure because you dont try hard enough"
"YEAH YOU TELL 'IM SIS"
"stop disappointing everyone or your life will continue to be worthless"
"NOW TELL HIM HOW STUPID HE IS WOOOOOOO"
Scones: i'm sure that's nothing alex hasn't already told himself
Scones: but damn.
Scones: the fucking... the twins? what are they like? imean
theyre Super Weird
For a long time dion like legitimately hated them and wanted nothing to do with them
because they were shapeshifters from a YOUNG age and dion, obviously, was like "im never. im never dealing with any of that bullshit again im not doing it." he hated seeing them shapeshift and they very clearly had no respect for their own powers or for the wellbeing of other people so he was just constantly on edge around them like "theyre going to do something terrible some day i know it and its going to be my fault because im the monster that made these monsters"
but over time he finally chilled out about it and realized "oh. theyre not mean. theyre just really weird."
like theyre actually super docile and well-meaning kids, theyre just so WEIRD
Scones: yeah no anna's the bad one honey
Scones: are they like...
Scones: they look the exact same
Scones: also Sonia likes them though right? since they have a really flexible vocal range bc of the whole shapeshifting thing
their shared shape is a conscious effort. the reason why they're mirrored images is because they're constantly checking each other and making sure they look the same. sometimes their bodies change a little bit unconsciously because they see someone with pretty eyes or a weird-looking nose and theyre like "oh look thats me now" but since thats usually an accidental, unconscious change, it can sometimes just go to one of them. their whole situation is really weird because they share one soul, but they're split into two different bodies. so a lot of what they do an say and think is completely in sync, but they can sometimes get offbeat if they're not careful. which leads to a lot of wackiness.
sonia loves them because shes a GOOD MOM but even she, at first, was kinda iffy about them. she realized way before dion that they were good kids tho, and she helped him come to the same conclusion too
the reason why they're split apart is because they made sonia's pregnancy so complicated that she was totally going to die. they were too powerful and asriel was trying really really hard to be reborn through them so eventually the gods had to step in and do something about it. splitting them apart meant splitting their power, which calmed both of them down significantly, and since their soul became so difficult for him to understand, asriel couldnt make a connection with them anymore and he lost the opportunity.
Scones: they nearly killed Sonia damn their relationship w/ dion was already off to a bad start
when they were born at first they weren't shapeshifters. it was only when aria fucked everything up and got ahold of the Chaos Keystone when she was little that their powers were able to awaken. which was an UNFORTUNATE SURPRISE FOR DION ALL AROUND because 1) he has to deal with calming down (or possibly being forced to kill) his daughter before she hurts herself or the people around her and 2) oh good suddenly his weird 3-year-olds are granny's little terror twins
Scones: on a scale of anna to alex how are they with magic
anna and alex are both really good at magic
Scones: aria to alex
the duets are actually the worst with it. they don't know a lot of spells in general because they never really bothered to learn but otherwise, the duets are Okay as far as technique goes. BUT, since theyre So Weird they can do some fancy stuff that no one else can
like, something the family uses to their advantage is that they make the duets a super easy teleport buddy. at one point they take one of the twins to another continent while the other twin stays in the palace and they can cast a teleportation spell for themselves from one end of the world to the other.
because the way teleportation works is that you cant cast it outside your "reach" and you can't cast it on anyone other than yourself or on inanimate objects, and its really really stupid to try and land yourself in a place you cant actually see
the duets have two bodies, and two spheres of influence that they can cast magic on at the same time. so even if theyre miles and miles apart, its basically like having two connected outlets with which to work through.
and in a combat situation, since they're always in sync, theyre usually casting the same spell at the same time, but probably from opposite ends of the field so you gotta keep an eye on where both of them are at all times. however, since they're usually casting the same spell at the same time, just paying attention to what one is casting while knowing where the other one is lets you know what to expect. they're really slow casters so with enough coordination, they're kinda easy to outmaneuver.
they deal a lot with sensory overload, actually. because they have this thing where they share each other's experiences at the same time, so if they're not right next to each other and not doing the same thing or experiencing the same exact thing, they cant really sort through everything theyre seeing or hearing or feeling. so they're very careful about what they're both doing, and if they're not holding hands or super super close to one another, they can be a little anxious and uncomfortable since they're anticipating sensory issues as a result of the distance.
when they get a little out of sync and try to hold two conversations at once, the words theyre trying to say can sometimes get mixed up, which is extremely awkward and confusing for everyone. heck, sometimes it just happens when ONE of them is trying to have a conversation, and the other one is just focused on doing something on their own. the one outside of the conversation might just start talking to themselves and no one understands why.
that also leads to them being bad shapeshifters, actually. because theyre not good at acting. theyre great at the act of shapeshifting, but the imitation part of it is very difficult for them.
The Duets use transformation so liberally OUTSIDE of battle, you can only imagine how much they shapeshift once they really get into it. Not only that, but their whole two-bodies-one-soul deal makes their teamwork flawless, and it makes them even more strange and unsettling to go toe-to-toe with
But they're also not outright malicious. They've never experienced bloodlust or hatred intense enough to make them want to do someone harm. At their heart, they're really just a couple capricious, charismatic, creepy children.
Asriel and Sariel were once the Old Gods of Justice and Revenge. Asriel being Revenge, and Sariel being Justice. When the universe was reborn, they were gods no longer - but they still had nearly all their power, though they were a little more mortal than they used to be. When they were recreated in this new universe, it was as an instrument of death and divine retribution, sent to strike down a race of demons called the Nirra.
They were ALMOST fully successful. The survivors of their attack can be counted on one hand: Lucius, the king of the Nirran race and who was once the Old God of Death; Dima, the Queen of the Nirra who would put an end to their attack, even though there was no one else to save but herself; and the royals' newborn children, Nayuta and Nyla.
The way Dima stopped them in their tracks was by using blood magic to seal Asriel's soul and bind him to Nayuta's blood. Sariel sees this happen, and before Dima can use Nyla to do the same thing to her, she flees from the scene, and returns to her goddess to later become the Archangel Justitia. Nayuta and Nyla are abandoned by their mother shortly after their escape, and neither really knows about what evil presence crawls in Nayuta's veins. But Nayuta is noticeably more powerful than her twin - something that would lead to that twin's eventual downfall.
During the events of the story, Nayuta attempts to revive her race, by using her blood to create new Nirrans. However, the science behind the experiment isn't advanced enough for it to succeed. The only one that survives is Dion - because Asriel seized the opportunity to take a new body for himself. It didn't quite work out either, however, as Asriel was worn out from so much time spent dormant, and so much effort that went into making sure one body survived. So Asriel slept, and Dion was born in his place.
Asriel's connection to Dion is unique within the story, in that they're not bound simply by their souls, but also by blood. It's a stronger connection, but also more volatile and painful for Dion to experience. It also means that, as they're bound by blood, Asriel becomes a curse that Dion's children are forced to inherit. Which is unpleasant for all of them as well.
As far as personality goes... Well, first and foremost, Asriel is a Sadist with a capital S. He derives great pleasure from the pain of others, and is cunning and cruel and clever and incredibly unkind. He has no redeeming qualities. He is constantly wearing a shit-eating grin and can't say "good morning" without lying twice.
Sariel is shitty on the other end of the spectrum. She never smiles. She never has fun. She never forgives. She never forgets. She is venomous and vindictive and she is a moral absolutist who doesn't compromise and doesn't know mercy or kindness. She is resolute and unwavering in all that she does, and she justifies all her misdeeds in the name of "righteousness" - as if that isn't the most subjective thing in the world
Allie: sooooo when you say inherit, what exactly does that mean?
I mean that they all have a connection to Asriel that they can't escape. Although, his connection with them is a lot weaker than it is with Dion. In fact, they actually make him weaker by spreading his presence and consciousness so thin between all 5 of them.
Allie: so his "posesses" all 5 people at once?
more like "present"
"possession" implies he's in control. he actually CAN'T possess any of the kids except Alex
Allie: oh so he can control one of them
Allie: what about the others? does having him "present" mean they are stronger or just hear his voice in thier head sometimes or?
he can talk to them and manipulate them and lend them his power, if he so chooses. to varying degrees for each of them. the twins, Duane and Enette, can't hear his voice or feel his presence at all, and Anna can hear him faintly on occasion, but Aria and Alex can hear him very clearly, and are most affected by their connection with him.
Allie: but he is still technically present in the twins?
yes, because even if theyre not really aware of him, he's still able to know what theyre doing and once or twice he's visited them in dreams. part of his inability to communicate with them is a simple lack of desire to. and the same goes for Anna in that sense. Duane and Enette are so fucking weird that Asriel is just like "you know what. i dont think im on the same level as you guys. how am i supposed to have a conversation with you. bye."
the other reason why is because Duane and Enette are just. weird as a person. their whole situation is just super weird, because they're considered by almost everyone to be the same person. they were originally one person, as a matter of fact, and when they were split apart, they were forced to share the same soul between two bodies. whenever Asriel tries to get in on that action it's just DIFFICULT because he has no idea what the fuck is happening. he kind of hates them.
when Asriel and Dion actually start being sort-of-friends and helping each other out, Dion sometimes asks him to check up on the kids, and he ALWAYS refuses if it's the twins
Oh. How could I forget to mention one of the most important notes on Sariel and Asriel.
They HATE each other. Ever since they were created, it was to tear each other down and rip each other apart. Their hatred for one another is coded into their very being. And even though Dion is not Asriel, and does not share his memory or past, in Sariel's eyes, nothing changed with regards to that old rivalry.
At first, Dion did the adult thing to do and avoided her. And when he couldn't avoid her, he ignored her. He was protected by the Goddess of Balance and watched over closely by the Goddess of Chaos, and even Sariel's master, the Goddess of Order, was moved to pardon him for his crime of... well, being a demon, mostly. Despite all this, Sariel still publicly reviled and mocked him, trying to goad and antagonize him into starting a fight with her, and proving to everyone that he was the monster she accused him of being. But, he was always able to shrug it off. He'd lived his whole life hearing taunts and jeers from the people around him, cursing him for his cursed blood. Sariel could say nothing he hadn't already heard before, and nothing he hadn't already told himself.
Despite this strength, there was one occasion in which the tension between them reached a boiling point. The Archangel made the mistake of threatening and intimidating Dion's son, Alex - whom she also recognized as Asriel incarnate - to the point of tears. That was the only time he was angered enough that he crossed blades with her.
He doesn't even leap to Sonia's defense so passionately. Mostly because he says to himself, "Sonia is stronger than I am and can definitely handle herself." With his kids, it's an entirely different story. He can actually be quite overprotective at times.
I've been doing a little casual RPing and now I'm gonna make a post about how House Harmonia types and why. ♪ Sonia - Always types with proper grammar and punctuation. A little bit because it preserves her image of Wise & Trustworthy Individual, but mostly because her son Alex has a hard time reading when it's anything less. Realizing that, she figured he can't be the only one with that sort of problem, so it only made her want to use this style even more. Accessibility is important ♬ Dion - an apathetic mix of lowercase and uppercase, but usually at least punctuated for flow and readability. acronyms are rarely used. the shift key is too much effort to be reaching over to all the time, so whenever possible, he just skips over it. he's not an orator and doesn't find writing style to be important. But in serious conversations, you can see his writing get serious as well. ALSO HE TALKS IN CAPS AND USES A LOT OF QUESTION MARKS WHEN HE IS ANGRY?????? ♭ Aria - Like her mother, she writes like a research paper. Not to be nice, but because it makes her feel like she's smarter than other people, and she enjoys the smug sense of superiority. When she gets stressed out by something, however, she types a little bit to fasr and makes some small mstakes and has lots of run oj sentences and doesnt punctuate anythijg ∬ Duet - usually dey r p chill and use lots of :3 faces n ( ・ิω・ิ) type faces that dey look liek a gad dam 12yo on deviantart but when dey get excited DEY TYPE W SO MCH CAPS AND W SO MNY NEEDLESSLY SHORTENED WRDS DAT DEY R BARELY EVN READABLE!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!! LMAOOOOO ♥ Alex - He tries. he really does. Some times there are words he doesnt know how to spell and sometimes he forgets to capitalise and punctuate but he is still ledgable and that's all that matters ★ Anna - pretty much just types like a normal person. no smug punctuation, no unnecessary additions to text, perfect spelling and grammar, she just talks as the venue demands. If it's a more serious conversation, she might switch to a more serious tone and grammar, but if shes just chatting with her friends, she wont really bother.
