Dhergals - Usually called Duggies - are dragon adjacent omnivorous creatures. They are homebodies, with magpie hoarding tendencies and an eye for ornamentation. Once they set upon a place to make their home, they never leave. It's best to keep them away to begin with or make peace with their presence. They are clean and bright, with a love for squeaking and whistling out a little tune every now and then. A house with a happy Duggie is always clean and free of pests- though they are rarely sought out.
Most Duggies live their entire lives at the "underling" stage, incapable of flight and never growing antlers- despite the ability to do so . It is with the prolonged exposure to stressors that they undergo a slow metamorphosis
Due to their inability to leave their home, they have developed the ability to "Ascend" in order to protect it- if need be. This is a slow and permanent process. Antlers come in, the wings grow, and so does the Dhergal. Going from the size of a corgi to as large as a 737, the amount of food needed to sustain the Dhergal becomes untenable.
Ascended Dhergals compensate for this by demanding tithes, eating livestock, or attacking food supplies. They will do anything to survive, and stop caring for their children or even view them as enemies. At this point, people are usually pushed to slay the Dhergal or move. Duggies that begin to show signs of stress are sometimes pre-emptively slain to avoid future pain.
As a result of this culling, most Duggies left are rather shy and hate being seen by people.
