started another crash binge

upon realizing that I could quote most of the opening duke + crash dialogue I decided I may have rewatched this series too much

How old do we think everyone in Crash is? I don’t know why this is the question that’s been plauging my mind but it is.

Pops is definitely the oldest of Team Fixer. He’s in his late forties at the youngest. I personally think he’s somewhere in his mid to late fifties, possibly older, but that is a middle aged man with more salt than pepper hair if I ever did hear one.

Wes is also in his forties (stated in the show) so I think he’s a little younger than Pops, even if it’s just by a year or two. Again, middled aged man with a lot of grey hair from stress.

Duke is interesting because we’ve heard be called “kid” by Wes and/or Pops (I don’t have the best memory, sue me) and we’ve heard him refer to the others as “kiddos” so either it’s just a habit he picked up over the course of his time with Pops or he’s older than most of Team Fixer and acts accordingly (as someone who will call people “kiddo” even if they are a year younger than me, this seems like something Duke would do even if he was a week older than someone).

Crash is an old soul which makes it kinda hard to pin down his age. It’s also clear that he’s bern doing this for a long, long time and has bern stationed in a couple different areas with a couple different teams (at the very least, one other team). I do think he’s younger than Duke though. Something about Duke just screams older man to me and I don’t know if it’s the lore we’ve gotten from him that makes him seem like a man in his mid-life crisis or just my personal biases but Duke is older than Crash in my mind.

Izzy has that independent older sister type vibe where everything she ever did was scrutinized and was scolded if she wasn’t perfect so she placed all her self-worth on being the best and one mess up can (and does) destroy her mental image of herself. However, she’s also brash and despite her arguments to the contrary, is just as if not more immature than some of the other members on Team Fixer. For purely entertainment purposes, I think it would be really funny if her and Crash were born close together but in different countries/planets so there’s a bug debate over who’s older (it’s Crash, but Izzy is fighting for that older siblings title).

I think Lily would be next oldest since she’s been in the army for a time but is still a bit too chipper and, for a lack of a better word, naive? For me to think that she’s been doing this for a long time. Then again, it could just be that she’s nice and optimistic and that makes her feel younger. Her and Wes also have some lore running that makes me think that while she hasn’t been in the army long, she has been affected by the war for a good bit of her life. She wouldn’t be that much younger than Izzy and is obviously very grounded and level headed, but I still think she’s younger than Izzy.

Target is obviously very young, or at least much younger than the rest of his teammates. He’s not a child by any means, but there’s definitely still a lot of youth to him (would be incredibly funny if he ended up being older than Crash or something. Idk why that’d be funny to me). I definitely think he’s one of, if not the youngest member of Team Fixer.

Though we might as well toss all this out the window since Peanut is clearly the oldest at eighty years old, so what the fuck do I know? (I think he’s between Izzy’s and Target’s age. Not quite an “old seasoned veteran” like the older Fixers, but not quite the “young, naive newbies” like Lily and Target. He’s his own special brand of loco, I guess.)

New episode of Crash just dropped and I am FERAL OVER IT

OH MY GOD

Okay, okay, okay. Calm down. Everyone calm down. (Spoilers below)

My thoughts are gonna be all over the place but HOLY SHIT.

First of all, is that opening scene Crash? Did he get his squad killed in a crash? Was it an accident? Were they shot down? He seems to still feel guilty over it, traumatized most definitely. The little bits of lore about Crash’s past are making me so fucking curious about what happened.

Also, apparently, Team Fixer are a bunch of badasses and NO ONE THOUGHT TO TELL ME??

Like, holy shit, when they are on a mission they are on a mission. And they all?? Work so well together?? And they listen to Pops exactly. No questions, no hesitation, just listens.

And I mean, they listen to Pops outside of combat scenarios. They so obviously trust and adore this guy. He’s clearly earned their trust and he continually cares about each and every one of his soldiers.

But seeing them all go dead quiet as they listen to Pops on the field, seeing the focus they have, the tried and true experience ringing clear as they execute their plan on the spot. God damn.

And seeing Duke and Peanut, the two goofballs of team fixer, ruthlessly execute all those enemy soldiers, man. You forget these guys have been fighting for so long. They’ve very clearly killed a lot of people before. They’re soldiers. It makes me wonder if the time the spend cracking jokes and trying to have fun is their way of coping with taking so many lives.

Which makes Target’s hesitation all the more powerful because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. He’s never taken a life like this before and he’s freezing up. This is his first real mission, one with consequences, one where lives are being taken.

That’s gonna be a point of contention later for sure. I can see Target not wanting to kill anyone and it gets someone hurt. He’s a bleeding heart and that’s a dangerous thing on the battle field. But he also clearly cares for his friends, so whether he ends up killing someone to save them or watching one of them get hurt because if him, Target is gonna have a crisis over his place in the military.

And then fucking Pops being the man on the scene. The way he gets everyone in order, gets everything organized, so easily places everyone where they need to be. No wonder he’s a feared war vet. (Also, the shot of Pops shooting the enemy soldier and blood splatters on the camera? Peak. Oh my god. I’m watching this episode over and over again I swear)

Like, all the tidbits we get of them interacting on base are so…mundane? Domestic? Normal? That you think they’d all be incompetent in the field but they’re all amazing.

And that’s only half of it!!! There’s the ai and Lilly and Wes and Lilly and Target and Peanut being a good guy while also being ridiculous!!! This episode is so fucking good I can’t even get all of my thoughts out about it!!! It’s just.

Great job. Seriously. Everyone worked so hard on this episode and it shows. This show makes me so happy and it’s so clearly loved and AUGH MORE PEOPLE NEED TO WATCH IT.

Scar-Gazing

Duke headcanons bundled up in a half fic half character study, let me know if you enjoy because I may post more writing in the future ⭐

Duke's scar itched sometimes, the one scrawled across his cheeks and the bridge of his nose. Never too bad, no— just as a reminder of sorts.

That he was alive, he supposed.

It felt kind of ridiculous to Duke, but he sometimes found it comforting. It was no secret that the man flirted with death often, be it through the horrors of war or his own stupidity, so that familiar itch became just that: familiar.

But that night, tumbling words illuminated by a roaring campfire and escaping all-too-fast to stop?

Duke's scar burned like the day it was carved into his skin.

Crackling under the pitiful eyes of his teammates, heat spilling through his veins, he excused himself alongside his messy past to track down Izzy.

To run damage control yet again.

To stargaze.

Memories, thoughts, emotions: none were distinguishable to the man pressed against a wall— tucked into the darkest corner of the base with the best view of the sky. Constellations danced in and out of view as Duke made feeble attempts to identify a few. His face hurt, but the stars were a nice distraction.

They always were.

His older sister used to love the stars when they were kids, always dragging Duke out to the backyard and pointing excitedly to the sky.

"Look, look! There's the Big Dipper!"

Orion snapped his belt, and suddenly Duke's eyes were burning as well. The stars blurred, and the fire raged on.

His scar didn't feel helpful anymore, no— it felt like an omen.

A failure.

The dawn of the terrifying realization that Duke was getting worse again.

That he was growing too comfortable here.

That he was becoming a victim of his vice.

And that maybe, just maybe, he wasn't unlike his old man after all.

Duke didn't feel warm after that. In fact, an icy cold had flooded his skin, sinking into his chest and wrapping its sharp tendrils around his ribs. He choked on the air, pleading with the stars.

He could get better, he knew he could. He just needed time.

"So did he," the stars replied, "so did he."

The pressure is on to come up with a good facecanon for Duke because I hate drawing Spartan armor and I love drawing faces
