I bet some of the people who are enthusiastically reblogging the "the average person doesn't have to be accountable for eloquence about a tragedy" post are the same people who are trashing ANYONE who is offering "thoughts and prayers" to the victims of the recent natural and man-made tragedies.* As if the only people who find meaning in prayer were heartless right-wingers who like to shut down abortion clinics. Bitch, I believe in prayer, just as I believe in gun control. I'm religious in some ways. I've prayed and had my prayers answered. Other than calling their senator or something, the average person can't do jack fucking shit about mass shootings. And the average person knows that. So maybe they feel prayer is better than nothing. Oh, how fucking offensive. Fuck off with this, I can't take it.
*I do make a distinction between joe average saying "thoughts and prayers" and people in positions of political/financial power saying it. I hope that goes without saying. But hey...A president can offer prayers too, as long as they then DO something and don't act like an ass.
