“...Reckon I git perdy disgusted wit’ people, mostly.” He doesn’t elaborate and leaves it at that.
There’s not a lot that will really get Roman’s stomach to turn, at least not in a sense of what’s gross. He’s helped birth animals, sifted through literal bull shit, used maggots to clean infections. In that sense, he has a stomach of steel.
There is however a level of lacked morals, a type of depravity in certain people who take pleasure in hurting others, that he will never begin to understand or agree with and seeing how some can treat others, really gets him heated and upset sometimes to the point of turning his stomach.
In most cases like this, he is very likely to get involved as standing by will generally cause him to just be sick with himself. Also, you know when toddlers try to pass along half-eaten, soggy food from their wet, slobber hands? Yeah, he hates that. He isn’t sure if its the kids, or the spit food but no thank you.
046. How do they handle getting sick?
“Shot’ve OJ an’ some soup. Be on m’way, I reckon.”
Over time, Roman has become extremely independent and loathes the idea of having to depend on anyone, or ask them for help. Nor does he care for pity or sympathy, so he dislikes being seen in any kind of weakened state. This includes being sick, but can extend to injury and poor moods as well. A big part of it is pride, and another part comes down to trust.
In any case, he’ll try to hide evidence of being less than 100%, so long as he isn’t challenged too heavily on the matter. People more stubborn than him have been known to literally drag him into clinics just to make sure he’s actually good.
All said, these bouts of independence do come with his own version of self-care, and he knows what to find in the woods for most matters of common sickness. If it gets bad enough, he will begrudgingly reach out for someone. Luckily, or unluckily, most things that get him sick enough to notice usually aren’t great as he’s got a pretty strong immune system and doesn’t run into the problem often.
081. Is your character religious?
“Naw. S’all just another way fer people t’control ya’. Git in yer head. Honest Holy Men are one thing...but they gotta firs’ be honest.”
Short answer, hell no. Definitely not when it comes to any kind of organized religion. He finds in most cases, it’s all just a ploy for someone to feel more important than they are. In theory they have purpose, but in practice, they’re another form of institution. Now, if you ask him if he’s spiritual, the answer is a little murkier.
He believes in faith, and strong feelings. He doesn’t see the world as so bleak that there’s nothing beyond it, or so beautiful that this is the best there is. He certainly isn’t as quick to question gods and deities given some of his more recent experiences. There’s often times, a lot of fear regarding what he does know about higher powers. Especially given his Garlean education.
A certain someone ( @luck-and-larceny ) has given him some brighter outlooks towards things like the Twelve, and shaped his belief that maybe, there are some okay things out there. He’s seen enough of Malika’s bizarre luck and Nymeia related magic that he’s willing to believe in it. Lately, he’s been looking into Oschon to find some kind of connection in faith there...Or feel really dumb trying.
Thank you for the asks, man! I really enjoyed answering these :D
