Ancient origins
Just got The Mammoth Book of British Kings & Queens by Mike Ashley. This looks to be a great resource and doesn't just cover the main royal lines of England and Scotland but that of just about every post-Roman kingdom that there has been in Britain.
This of course means that Geraint, Urien and Owain have their own sections, showing roughly what we know of them in a historical context away from Arthurian myth.
The boy and I admire the scenic placement of the old Celtic Iron Age hill fort perched on the cliffs 330 feet above sea level over the Bristol channel in Devon. Known as Windbury Head Camp, it probably protected locals from attack by Welsh invaders. #ironagebritain #ironage #ironagehillfort #celticbritain #dumnonia #hartland #hillfortwednesday (at Windbury Head) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBI4s2lAs7Q/?igshid=u8qvmohiizbr
We visited the former centre of Dumnonia and the alleged site of King Athur’s conception in Cornwall. The rain let up for just enough time for us to take this photo! #kingarthur #tintagel #celtichistory #kernow #dumnonia (at Tintagel Castle) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoFVchRlqp9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1l3scdvmgj01j
The legend just got more interesting.
British archaeologists have reported the discovery of massive walls that appear to be part of a Dark Ages palace complex that existed around the same time and place as King Arthur’s birthplace in the famous legend of Camelot.
The walls, located in the English village of Tintagel in southwest Cornwall, enclose a number of buildings that would have formed the royal centre of the Kingdom of Dumnonia in the 5th and 6th centuries AD, experts suggest.
The dozen or so buried buildings discovered inside the 1-metre-thick (3-foot) masonry walls contained hundreds of fine glass fragments from medieval France and pottery shards from Late-Roman amphorae and Phocaean red-slip ware, thought to have carried wine from modern-day Turkey and olive oil from northern Africa.

Geraint
Today is a day, sacred to the ninth century Welsh bard, Geraint, the blue beard of Wales.
Geraint is a character from Welsh folklore and Arthurian legend, a king of Dumnonia and a valiant warrior. He may have lived during or shortly prior to the reign of the historical Arthur, but some scholars doubt he ever existed. The name is a Welsh form of the Latin Gerontius. (From Wikipedia.)
