Dark ruby with the slightest garnet edge. Big plummy nose, a fat bish, crammed with banana peel and heady briar, so so ripe, tip-toeing against flabby, crazy marzipan and the blackest of cherry while still showing an incredible spicy angst. Raw cut grass and a Caltrans median of weed, nasal-cloggingly concentrated–an almost Syrah-like warm-weather peat and dustiness.

DuMOL Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2012 is 100% Chardonnay, a bit of an oak bomb, and not really my style. There are notes of lemon curd, lime, honeydew melon, offset by floral and darker notes and some oak. I decanted the wine to have the wine open up and blow off some of the oak. There are nutty notes roundness and acidity with lime and rich citrus notes and Malo on the palate. The 2012 Chardonnay Russian River (4,360 cases) was aged on its lees in one-third new French oak for 11 months and underwent full malolactic fermentation. This is a six-vineyard blend, and is medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and rich. DuMOL's is a 25 acre sustainably farmed Estate Vineyard that crafts wines that fully capture the aromatics, flavors and textures that exemplify their vineyards. A standout region for its Californian take on Burgundian varieties, the Russian River Valley is named for the river that flows through it. It is mostly a cool-climate growing region thanks to breezes and fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir reign supreme in Russian River, with the best examples demonstrating a unique combination of richness and restraint. One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While practically every country in the wine producing world grows it, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. When planted on cool sites, Chardonnay flavors tend towards grapefruit, lemon zest, green apple, celery leaf and wet flint. Warmer locations provide tropical flavors of melon, peach and pineapple.
