An Open Letter to Undecided Voters
So, I understand a number of American voters are still undecided. They see Trump and Clinton both as disgusting people. If you’re one of these people, and you’re uncertain who to vote for, allow me to (humbly) point something out.
The biggest (and, let’s face it, only) argument against Clinton is her email secrecy. Trump supporters (notice I didn’t say Republicans?) argue that she’s “crooked” and “nasty” because she’s not communicated with other important officials through appropriate, official email channels.
Where to begin with this one.
Well, to start off, bear in mind that the allegations against Clinton haven’t been confirmed yet – FBI is still investigating, last I heard – but, for argument’s sake, let’s assume they’re true.
First, you (Trump supporters) are horrified that a high-ranking government official used unofficial channels to communicate and liaise about various government operations. The way you’re losing your mind, you’d think this is anything but ABSOLUTELY NORMAL BEHAVIOUR. Do you seriously believe that Clinton is the first and only high-ranking government official, in the United States or anywhere else, to use unofficial channels to communicate? What do you think the CIA has been doing all these years? Do you know how many individual secret service agencies work in Washington, DC on any given day? Last I heard, seven. Do you think they drop all their reports in the proper inboxes? If you genuinely believe that Clinton is anything but the Milli Vanilli of government covert operations, then you should’ve stayed in school longer.
Second, you think that, because she did not keep all her conversations on the up-and-up that she’s a big fat liar. If this is your argument as to why person X should or should not be president, then, boy oh boy, are you backing the wrong horse! According to the Toronto Star, Trump lied 34 times during the first presidential debate alone! Factcheck.org published an article about all the lies and untruths they found in what Trump has said just in the last few days. The article was so long, I stopped reading. So, if you want to play “Liar liar” game, Trump’s burned through an entire warehouse of Moore’s suit pants by now.
Third – and it’s sad this needs to be brought up again – but it’s horrifying that you would put Clinton’s email scandal as comparable to Trump’s fascist platform. This is the man who referred to Mexicans as, and I quote, “rapists” and “murderers”, the same man who wants to build a wall – yes, he’s still pushing that idea – to keep out the “bad hombres”. This is the man who accused Megyn Kelly of being on her period as the reason why she was grilling him – AND SHE’S A REPUBLICAN! This is the man who wants to ban Muslims from entering the country. (“No he doesn’t! He just wants them heavily vetted!” WRONG! The only reason he changed that tune was that even he realised how ridiculous his argument sounded. If he could, he would.) This is the man who made fun of a reporter who had a physical disability. This is a man who fat-shamed a former Miss Universe, as well as several other contestants. This is a man who smiled and nodded when he was referred to as a “sexual predator”. AND then there was Pussy-Gate. Need I go on? THIS is the person you are seriously considering for president of the United States?
Perhaps you’re thinking, “yeah he’s a douche, but I still don’t like Trump, so I’ll vote Green,” um…no. The United States operates in a two-party system, a system your neighbours to the north abandoned just shortly after the end of the First World War, because we realized it was insufficient. One day, you’ll realise that, too. In the meantime, however, when you have two candidates (and only two candidates) who are so diametrically opposed to one another, and when one of them is, as I said, a fascist and racist, then it is your civic duty to vote for Clinton. Not because you like her, but because you need her to beat Trump. Trump CANNOT be allowed to run your country.
I’ll say it again: Trump CANNOT be allowed to run your country. An election is an event in which the general public voices its opinion, and if Trump gets in, that voice will be saying, “Yes, women do deserve to be sexually assaulted by rich people. Yes, Mexicans are, in fact, rapists and murderers. Yes, Muslims are, in fact, terrorists.” Essentially, it will be saying that the United States is a White-Christian-Able-bodied- Males-Only club. So, unless you fit that bill, you. Are not. Important.

Do us all a favour. Vote for Hillary.
