Amelia sucked in a breath, unsure whether or not she was ready for this to happen. She wouldn’t say she wasn’t expecting it or preparing herself for this, but she knew it was bound to happen one day. She also didn’t keep any kind of expectations up for disappointment was the one of the worst types of feelings to deal with. Her soul mate could have been anyone in the vast world, and to think as the minutes passed by while she walked to her usual coffee shop at the corner, she was going to meet “the one”.
Well, possibly, not “the” one, but them. She was going to meet her soul mate. She did quite a bit of research on the subject of course, seeing that soul mates are your best friends forever, your other half, but no one guaranteed them to be your romantic investment. She went into the coffee shop, taking her usual seat after ordering her usual drink, waiting by the window and watching the people bustle by. She was anxious, nervous, hyper, as well as sleep deprived. She couldn’t help constantly looking down at her wrist to see if they were coming or not, or if she’s missed them walk by the window. She kept a very careful eye out, unsure of what to do at this point. Would they even come into the coffee shop? Would they even want to see her? Would they be happy knowing their soul mate was blonde and perky, slightly obnoxious, but also happy-go-lucky? Would they even want to date her? “Two minutes left….” She muttered, sipping her coffee and slapping herself awake. The question that seemed to prick at her mind though, was whether or not this would be a platonic or romantic relationship to begin with. “58… 57.. 56—-“

Alice's number had been counting down for centuries now. In a way, she knew it was good, that they would live and survive as nations for that long, however, it was also incredibly lonely. She refused to cheat on her soulmate, even though they hadn't met yet, but that meant she couldn't be with anyone. She just prayed it wouldn't be a human, that all this waiting wouldn't be for such a short burst of happiness.
When she went to visit the colonies, she noticed the number growing smaller. What other nation could it possibly be? Alfred wasn't it, they had already met, same with many of the European powers. Perhaps there was a nation in the new world she had not met yet, a native one. She never expected that it would be the personification of a state, or at that time, colony. It just didn't seem likely. But when she saw the other girl while walking into Alfred's house, the number turned to zero, and everything seemed to freeze. She didn't look human...felt like a personification. Thank god. Still, who was she...
