I made a huge mistake today. Since I had been enjoying the fruit-flavored teas, I had intended to try the last flavor: blueberry. After placing my order, however, one of the women behind the counter informed me that they were out of iced tea and asked me if I wanted something else. I decided to change to an iced coffee so that I wouldn’t have to futz about with a change in the price of my order. Now, I wasn’t paying very much attention but I heard her ask me another question and I assumed it was the logical “cream and sugar?” which usually follows an order of iced coffee. I said “sure” to this question, entirely unaware that she had actually asked me “do you still want the blueberry?” Needless to say, I was horrified once I tasted what was in that cup. The flavor of blueberry syrup does not mix well with unsweetened iced coffee, the tastes competed for my attention leading to an upsetting flavor. Couple that with the usual watered down flavor of the DD iced coffee and you get a wholly unenjoyable beverage. However, there is a positive to this story. The pumpkin muffin was everything I would want in a muffin from Dunkin’ Donuts. The crumple and icing on top paired an overt sweetness with the subtle combination of savory pumpkin and sugar in the muffin itself. The muffin was moist and dense and full of pumpkin flavor. It was hands down one of the most enjoyable things I’ve had in the DD menu. All in all, I would give the pumpkin muffin a 7/10, a 2/10 breakfast with blueberry iced coffee.
