STUDIO & was born in March of 2010, and next week, we celebrate five years of creating, exhibiting, promoting, and engaging ART. Much of it seems like a dream -- the kind where interesting surprises wait around every corner and you wake up feeling part confused, part giddy, and hope to pick up right where you left off next time you fall asleep.
One day at STUDIO &, you walk past plaster mountains. Another day, you watch a woman with pink paint running down her thigh as she throws blue eggs at the wall. You bring an item to a shrine honoring death, and a skeleton puppet, nine feet tall, dances for you. You have your photo taken with Andre Agassi. You ride a flying bicycle. The American flag flies upside down, and Teddy Roosevelt wears a ski mask. On a warm summer evening, a gorilla leads you outside the gallery, hangs an armadillo pinata from a tree and beats it with a stick until limes, garlic, and radishes spill out.
Let's not wake up from this one; join us in the dream.
