Falling into the deep rabbit hole of duskwood character cosplayer on instagram
recently I have seen something quite interesting on instagram. (By cosplay I don't mean costume cosplay rather "account cosplay"). And I just want to talk about it.
Disclaimer: following post is not an accusatory but an opinionated post.
All of this started when I came across this particular account:
As you can tell it's a Jake fan account and this person is cosplaying as Jake. They seem actually very knowledgeable about coding stuff so it really feels like an actual Jake account. I also quite enjoy their content and they do have a large fanbase.
From this post's like ratio it's clear that many duskwood fans follow them. So you might ask what the issue is? Well if they are cosplaying Jake (who is duskwood character)then why are they tagging "reality_games_de"(developer of healing, sev7en... and not "Everbyte"?Now I want to clarify that it might be because those games also have hacker characters like ; wolf and shadow but I have played both of those games and can clearly tell they are cosplaying non of them. and the comments under the post clarifies that too.
AND that's not all, I noticed the accounts they follow:
As you can see all this account have one thing in common, "reality_games_de". Mind you That "Jake account" does not follow the actual official duskwood character nor the actors account nor Everbyte. They do follow the actors and writers of healing .And all this account thoroughly promotes reality games stuffs. but not once they mentioned Duskwood or Everbyte to my knowledge. And they are pretty committed with the cosplay too.
What's more interesting are the comments under the post that looks like bot but they aren't. Those comments account are also a follower or followed by these cosplay accounts. so they are in on it with the whole cosplay thingy. I know it is not that harmful and just some people having fun but they go out of their why to mention a company that is no way associated with duskwood. But don't even mention Everbyte the actual developers?
With all this I would like to clarify that the actual "reality games" account does not follow any of them.so it's safe to assume that the cosplayers are fans and no way involved with the developer right? or is it? *vsause theme song*
My overall ick with all this:
not a single time mentioning duskwood or Everbyte and constantly promoting other games feels like leaching out of there popularity. (you can argue that duskwood has ended and it's relatively popular so we should not care but it still feels shady)
misleading new player into thinking duskwood has anything to do with reality games.
PS: I DO NOT IN ANY WAY WANT TO START A DRAMA OFF OF THIS. THEY ARE JUST MY SIMPLE ANALYSIS OF A MATTER I FOUND INTRESTING(which very likely not be correct)AND THE LAST PART IS MY OPINON DO NOT GO BASH ANY OF THEM MENTIONED.(but I know I don't need to say it because you guys know better).
