Time for another ID! This one’s for a friend. Any clue what the species or care info is?

It’s a type of Mammillaria, but that’s really all I’ve got as cacti are not my forte!

Thankfully care is pretty standard for cacti, the same rules apply to them as it does to leafy succulents. Gritty soil, infrequent but deep waterings, and lots of sun. I’d go with watering once a month or less for cacti however as they’re more drought tolerant compared to leafy succulents.

I once had 3 cacti that I got from relatives for some holiday I can’t remember that I just left outside next to the front door under the eave of the house. They sat there uncared for for 7 years and were perfectly fine. Seriously I didn’t water them myself and just let the winter rains take care of them (not that they got much water being under the eaves). I threw them out eventually as I was never going to touch them because they’re too spiky for me to handle!

Hello! My sibling brought home another plant today, and I’m not sure what it is. Any ideas? ^^ Thanks in advance 💖!

My aunt surprise-gifted me a new plant bundle! They’re so tiny, the biggest one is half the size of my thumb ^^! I don’t know what type they are though, any idea? They’re fuzzy at the edges of their leaves.

(Will be repotting them in a draining pot with lots more perlite as soon as the soil dries. I’ve never cared for a fuzzy plant though, are they much different care-wise from echeveria perle von nurnberg?)

They’re a type of Sempervivum! The hairs are white to help reflect the sun so they can conserve water. Care isn’t all that different from an Echeveria PVN at all honestly! Just know that these are much hardier when it comes to the cold depending on species. Most do very well outside even where it snows in the winter. They’re very light hungry just like a PVN is. Unfortunately because there’s so many different types of Sempervivum I can’t tell you what species they are. Sounds like you have a good plan in place for caring for them and know what you’re doing! :)

Hello! Do you know if this is a flower stalk, or just a weird-looking baby? None of my succulents have ever flowered for me yet, so I’m not sure what to look out for exactly, but I’ve never had a baby look quite like this before - the cylindrical-looking leaf is mainly what’s throwing me off.

I’m not sure on the exact ID of this guy either - It’s most definitely some sort of graptosedum, maybe graptosedum ‘ghosty’ if that’s any help?

Looks like you just have a mutant leaf! Not a pup or a flower, just a leaf growing funny. :)

It’s most likely a Graptopetalum paraguayense, but ‘Ghosty’ looks exactly the same except for a different flower so who knows!

Me again, hope you don’t mind me coming to you often. You’re really good at this stuff and nobody else I can find has submissions open ^^;

Uh. Are my cacti alright? They’ve been like this a while and I don’t know what’s going on - looking it up said they got too much sunlight or water, but I cut back on both and they’re still brown and crusty… I’m kind of worried they might be dead, but they still have some green on them.

Care info: Rose Quartz cacti, one momma pot + 1 bundle of babies. Bottom-watered ~every three weeks to a month average (making sure their soil is dry first), both pots have drainage holes, and they’re kept on a shelf about two feet to the side of my window. Soil is ~50/50 succulent potting soil and perlite, with a layer of rocks on the bottom of the pot. (The baby bundle is in a clear plastic cup just so I could monitor root growth; I did cut drainage holes in it, and have it wrapped to prevent algae growth or root burn or anything)

Hmm. If this happened very suddenly and all at once then I’d say it was a sunburn issue, but it looks like it’s even around the plant for the most part unlike how sunburn would present. It may just be corking but it’s rather unusual to have it covering the entire plant. I’m a bit stumped honestly!

It being green in some places is a good thing though!! If it was me, and I was willing to sacrifice a baby, I’d chop into one and see if it’s still juicy inside. Other then that all you can really do is await and see how it does, maybe it will produce more babies from the green parts? Anyone else have any thoughts? I’m now rather certain it’s spider mite damage.

EDIT: Decided to actually google, this might be spider mite damage!!?? They’re extremely tiny so you can’t see them with the naked eye. You’d need a mignifying glass, or a loupe, to see them. I’d suggest some neem oil to kill them off as they’re not easy to get rid of using other methods. It won’t hurt your plant even if it isn’t mites thankfully so there’s no harm in it.

Good information on how to use it if you’re unsure. (Though her information about neem being harmless to bees is INACCURATE. It IS a contact killer, so it will kill on contact, as well as being a systemic. So don’t spray this when bees are out, if it’s wet and they touch it it will do them harm. It WILL kill beneficial insects on contact as well.)
