Aiden gets so much hate in season 5 and personally, I don’t really see it. did he do something wrong or something?? did he turn into Riya??
oh god. yeah. let's talk about this.
the fandom's switchup on aiden will never cease to baffle me. not just this time, but throughout his dvc run. he's 'too boring' in the beta, 'too dramatic' in the remake, 'too whiny' in all stars, and 'too mean' in fvf.
i partially blame the writing for this--i feel like it would've been better for there to be more focus on aiden during all stars. sure, he made merge again, but purely for the sake of furthering jake's redemption (i have my thoughts on jake, but this is not the time nor place for them). it would've been cool for him to openly talk about the mental strain the game has put on him, as well as his reasons for returning to it regardless being rooted in some sort of deep-seated insecurity.
i feel like aiden's writing has been somewhat half-assed throughout his run, and the writers are just using him as a punching bag for shits and giggles. it's not even like they don't know what to do with him--they have SO MUCH to explore with aiden that they just... haven't. hoping that means we're gonna get more of him in a spinoff, but i doubt it.
i don't think he's turning into riya, but i would LOVE to rant about their parallels and the reason for them.
short answer to your question: aiden as a character is a case of 'if you get it, you get it.' and you, my friend, get it :)
