dr. who redacted is so so so so important to me. the way cleo, the only trans person in the story, is alone throughout. the way the story never truly lets you forget the isolation she feels, nor how difficult it is for her to exist as a trans person who just can't hide. the way it feels like not one of the other characters are really and truly listening to her until she meets the doctor. and, on the obverse, the way cleo is the last one in the entire city. the way she is SO scared and yet she presses on always. the way she is the bravest of the trio without being foolhardy. the way she never gives up hope and never allows herself to be sidelined or forgotten. the way the doctor seeks HER out because she is the ONLY one who can help, the way she is the ONLY one who doesn't forget and the way she is the most important person in the entire story. and none of that is about her being trans, none of it is because of or in spite of her gender... she is trans AND she is the only one who can help, she is trans AND she is the only one unaffected by the virus, she is trans AND she is the most important person in the story. not but, not or, not because of, just AND.
and all of that, ALL of it is what makes the story a perfect display of what its like being trans, because everythings true at once. its scary and you will press on and you are alone and you are different and you WILL NOT be forgotten. juno dawson you absolute genius.
