Betula minor, the dwarf white birch, is a species of birch which can be found in Eastern Canada and in such US states as Maine, New Hampshire, and New York.

Dwarf birch (Betula nana), the leafs and catkins might be smaller than my fingernail but they still caused my mother hay fever. I love this little miniature tree adapted to the alpine tundra. Tärnaby, Sweden.

Old dwarf birch (betula nana) around 3 cm thick in some places. As it grew in a pretty protected place it reached 20 cm in height.

A classic part of mountain fauna and one of the first species to immigrate to Sweden after the ice age, dwarf birch measures less than one meter - the one pictured is maybe 20 centimeters high. (Notice the round leaves.)
