Daily Writing Challenge Day 13 - Time
For someone that possessed an infinite amount of it, time had always been such an intriguing concept to The Construct. While he was still relatively new to this world in a physical sense, his mind was a wealth of knowledge and constantly expanding from his endless curiosity. But time, this was one of those abstract thoughts that, beyond the definition provided in a dictionary, was perceived differently by everyone.
Do those that have significantly shorter life spans ever feel cheated to not have the chance to experience as much as other races? Or perhaps it was a relief to be gone from this world sooner rather than later. They still attained similar stages and life goals as those who lived for centuries, or even millenia: birth, childhood, education, adulthood, work, love, family, old age, death. Was this how time was measured? Or perhaps it was in the amount of wrinkles around one’s eyes, or watching children grow and thrive before they too repeat the life cycle.
Was time more prominent for those who expected to die sooner? To feel as if they had to rush through their life goals in order to be truly fulfilled; to waste less and strive harder? Oftentimes with age came wisdom, did they feel inferior to those who would easily outlive them?
Perhaps that was why The Construct had always felt an air of superiority exuding from his Master whilst in his company. In his eyes it was not arrogance, but absolute truth. While Gaebral’s physical form had been a part of this world only briefly, what was contained within was ancient. Neither man nor woman, living nor dead, but an idea, and ideas were eternal.
Upon his entrance into this world, The Construct had been told that he had been created with a fragment of his Master. A tether that had always existed, before this vessel and well after. He had always been here, and will forever remain even when all else has withered and decayed into nothingness. Even if he could not recall his existence prior to this time, he took comfort in the fact that he had always been a part of this infinite universe all along.
