2013.

 Pagan Disco at Medusa Lounge

Favorite party ever played:

 I'd have to say my own party, A/S/L, at the Barbary. It's an internet rave cave. Free Wifi & music. Wifi and music are bae.

Favorite woman DJ:

Too many favorites to name so I'm gonna say myself. Ghostpvnch!

  Best record you’ve ever bought:

 Wah Do Dem (rework) on Soul:Lion Dub Records. Very rare vinyl but it's the coolest two songs to light up to. It's what I play when I have a cute guy over and want to show that I'm super cool bruh.

How would you define the term DISCWOMAN?

 A Discwoman slays all day every day in everything that she does. And she can probably do a round house kick in heels so don't get out of line.

Pet peeve when DJing:

I worked hard to get some nice Technics 1200s and a mixer, and still when I play out I'll get someone looking at my setup, making a "cutesy" face at me like "Aw look at her big girl equipment!" It must be the pink vinyl.

  Do you dance when you DJ?

Can't stop won't stop! 

Can you DJ when wasted?

Even better when I'm wasted! No fucks given!

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever gotten?  

The drunk guy/girl at every party that tells me I'm their new favorite Philly DJ.

How would you define the term DISCWOMAN?

An ultra cool lady that's not afraid to kick a man's ass at his own game. 

Pet peeve when DJing: Drunk people holding drinks out over the equipment. Drunk people attempting to have full conversations with me. Requests too early in the night. Requests in general. 

So you dance when you DJ? Absolutely. 

Can you DJ when wasted?

Sometimes I prefer it. Slippery slope, though. 

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever gotten?  

When strangers shout me out in the street. So good.

A dark, underground hole-in-the-wall in London or Paris.

DISCWOMAN PHILLY #9: DENTANA

When did you start DJing?

When I was 13 I moved into my Dad's house for a bit and my blast-beat drumming in the basement studio probably annoyed him enough that he started introducing me to his idea of turntable-ism. It was 2003.

First gig in Philly:

In Old City at a ‘lounge’ who's name I should probably not mention as I was 17. Played records at some of the punk venues I lived at in West Philly prior to that as well.

Favorite party ever played:

6.22.13 - my crew Custom Lifestyle teamed up with Inciting to bring DJ Shiva and NxNW out. The party was at CLHQ, a now-deceased warehouse loft space that Achievement and I ran/closed out every weekend at 5th and Cecil B Moore. (Dec 2012- Sept 2013, RIP)

Favorite woman DJ:

DJ Shiva! Also love for K.Atou / Paula Temple. If you like techno you should be listening to Shiva's radio show, Subterror Radio.

Best record you’ve ever bought:

A rare Dance Mania mis-pressing of Factory Trax by Jammin’ Gerald. Technically it was a gift from my CL crew-mate & Insizer project counterpart, Dan Trevitt.

How would you define the term DISCWOMAN?

By actively remixing the sustained boys-club bias of the past, Discwoman is becoming the riot grrl movement of the future. I'm about bringing a 'Julie Ruin' ideal into the bedroom producer times we livin in.

Pet peeve when DJing:

B2B sets with that one homie who somehow makes their turn last WAY longer than any of the other DJs in the rotation. If it takes you 20 minutes to play 3 tracks it’s actually time for you to start a band. Also recklessness with gear; get your drink off the booth dood.

I've bartended for too many years and the career change has been bliss; music is my choice exit strategy from reality.

What’s best compliment you’ve ever gotten?

When my techno-teammate from Insizer introduced me to Terrence Dixon he told him that I am one of the most talented drum programmers he's ever seen.

The Moat stage @ Dimensions festival in Croatia or @ Labyrinth festival in Japan whose only stage is a teepee.

When did you start DJing?

Portland, Oregon in 2005. I played vinyl records at art shows, lounge bars and basement punk shows.

First gig in Philly: Literally the day I moved here after hours of driving and my stuff still inside a U-Haul. It was an Original Plumbing Magazine Trans-Health Conference after party. Favorite party ever played:

Big Freedia show, Oakland 2010.

When did you start DJing?

First gig in Philly:

Double Dutch, an all girl party at the Barbary with a live performance by Roxy Cottontail.

Favorite party ever played:

My favorite party I played was 2 years ago at the inception of Galentine's Day. The Factory Girls threw an insane party on February 13th with a Valentine-making station, a champagne fountain, baked goods, and more glitter and candy than a girl could dream of. It was wild.

Favorite woman DJ:

I’ve got to shout out Gun$ Garcia, fellow Factory Girl and major mentor of myself and Philadelphia’s female DJ scene. Also, Anna Lunoe. I adore all of her music and she is the sweetest gal.

"You're really great for a girl DJ!" Just kidding. When people say they loved my set, it makes me blush immensely. We're really just doing what we do so everyone else has a good time. I also really dig when people appreciate my DJ name.
