I thought about a Mulan Situation where Dictys is who originally was given the task of bringing Medusa's head. (As a ploy from Polydectes to eliminate the only man that could threaten his throne, and to take Danae and exile Perseus).
Perseus steps up because he knows he has way better chances than his old dad of surviving such a trip.
Visions of Dictys invade my mind.
Visions where, every night after Perseus departure, he is crying at the feet of a shrine of Poseidon, begging, imploring.
"You gave me a son and a daughter. Don't take them away from me. You can't be this cruel, you can't do this to me. Don't let me live if is just to watch them suffer and die"
