I close my eyes tight and believe. • It’s 2008 and I’m fifteen years old. I’m falling in love for the first time and it’s the messy haired class clown from math class. It burns to my fingertips just when he looks at me and I’m so enamored that I can’t see how gut-wrenchingly painful it’s going to be when he changes his mind. I close my eyes tight and hope he returns to fill the hole he left in my chest. • It’s 2018 and I’m twenty-four years old. I’m building up who I am; becoming who I want to be. It’s foreign because I believed in those fairy tales for so long, held them as the golden standard. I see now, I’m my prince and my first love.
