don’t you know who i think i am? was really the song written for shrek, not bang the doldrums. IN THIS ESSAY I WILL
march 2018, pete mentions writing a song for shrek that got rejected because they wrote their own song and didn’t listen to what the movie execs wanted. people ask him on twitter what song it was, he says bang the doldrums.
BUT I BELIEVE BASED ON ALL THE EVIDENCE THAT THIS WAS MERELY A MIX UP OF THE SONG TITLES.
1) blogspot post from january 2007 - pete talks about writing and recording a new song tentatively called “i dont think you know who i think i am” after being asked and inspired to write for a movie that sounds to me like it could be shrek. he talks about the movie character being as close as it comes to making sense with fall out boy, which tbh is so cute if you think he’s talking about shrek.
2) in january 2007, less than a month before the release of infinity on high, dykwitia was not on the published album tracklists. this makes sense if it was a song they were just now writing for a movie and added to the album at the last second.
3) in 2018, an interviewer asks pete whether choosing to have butch walker produce the albums post-hiatus contributed to fall out boy’s changed sound. pete says that they actually did work with butch walker on a pre-hiatus song for fall out boy, the song that was supposed to be in shrek, which pete refers to as “bang the doldrums.” BUT WHAT SONG DID BUTCH WALKER PRODUCE FOR FALL OUT BOY ON INFINITY ON HIGH?? DON’T YOU KNOW WHO I THINK I AM? !!!!!!
anyway. dykwitia shrek song
bonus evidence: the line “don’t you know who he thinks he is?” IS IN THE MOVIE 👹
okay bye
