Like A Rolling Stone - The Rolling Stones
Ultimate cover of the Dylan classic (sorry Jimi)
I just found out that Peter Yarrow (z''l), of Peter, Paul and Mary, passed away on January 7, 2025, and I am verklempt.
This leaves Paul the last man standing. He has no one left to harmonize with, which makes him, in a way, an orphan.
Please send your kindest thoughts to Paul during this sad time. He must feel like Riva in the Star Trek: TNG episode "Loud as a Whisper," who lost his chorus and, with them, a part of his very self.
...in which Melanie makes it painfully obvious that she is the lady and she's singing about a dude and don't get any sapphic ideas.
Grateful Dead - It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue (1966) Bay Area Post 1 of 7
For my own amusement, this week will all be posts from Bay Area bands - San Francisco. Berkeley and my hometown, Oakland.
I’m not a Grateful Dead fan though I have come to begrudgingly respect them and even enjoy some of their songs (the short ones). However, when I was listening to every version of It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue, I encountered this live recording from 1966 in Vancouver. Sounds like the Dead but they’ve still got a bit of the garage band in them.
The Matadors - It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue (1968)
One more version, from The Matadors, a Czech group. This isn’t some second rate , Eastern European cover band. Really solid.
