TODAY'S FACT IS

Did you know that the Eastern Hercules Beetle (Dynastes tityus) is a beetle found in the eastern US? Like other related beetles, the males have prominent horns and the larvae feed on decaying wood.

Their elytra often change colour depending on the moisture of their environment. The more moist their home, the darker the elytra and when they dry out more they show their lighter colours (usually tan, green, or grey) and unique splotting pattern.

I would also like to bring up the diabolical ironclad beetle (Phloeodes diabolicus), which I personally don't believe is quite as fitting but is certainly worth looking at!
