Gabriel is plagued by what he views as inexcusable failures. He blames himself for the death of his brother, the capture of his father (he is now starting to doubt his hatred towards the man), and how his fiancee turned out to be. Although most of this happened nearly a decade ago, he continues to live in those moments without gaining any sense of closure. This makes him difficult to hold positive relationships, which makes it even harder for him to adapt.
If he is reminded of any of these events, he will either shut down or lash out depending on the event and circumstance. Either way, he will usually end up in a numb state, often locking himself up in his room or taking a trip out into the Wasteland to avoid people.
