I maintain the hc that only reason Pepa focused on that one joke when talking about Bruno is because actually talking about him would just burst open the floodgates and Pepa "I have only been suppressing my emotions by distracting myself and forcing myself to focus on less important topics and literally never learned how to handle them" Madrigal is not going to let that happen any time soon
Oh definitely. I feel like the main reason the whole “we don’t talk about Bruno” thing got started was, as shown, even just mentioning his name upset Pepa so much because of how much she cared about and loved him and how worried she was when he disappeared. Then it just snowballed into the towns overall uneasiness around him and his compulsions and prophecy's and created this almost boogeyman like figure in the Encanto.
So when Félix bursts into the scene it’s almost like “hey are we finally able to address some of your trauma and fears around your brother’s disappearance?” and Pepa’s like “Not quite so I’m going to have to bring him up in the context of one of the happiest days of my life to balance it out enough.” and then Félix is “Hell yeah I love this story let’s gooo!”
