When To Use Tenses
This is part 3/3 of my Spanish Series and its all about Tenses! Here’s a link to the rest of the series (1 /2 /...)
{This will take a lot of practice to memorize but it will become second nature so don’t worry}
PAST- this is used when referring to actions done in the immediate past or when the exact time of actions is known, for example: yo comí y bebí ayer (I ate and drank yesterday)
IMPERFECT- This is used when describing actions done in your childhood, or things you used to do, for example: yo tocaba piano, o cuando era una nina yo jugaba con jugetes (I used to play piano, or when i was a child i played with toys)
SUBJUNCTIVE- To remember this my teacher gave us the acronym WEIRDO to remember the situations in which the subjunctive is used.
- W ishes
- E motion
- I nquires
- R ecommendations
- D oubt
- O pinion
{i will be making a post all about the subjunctive if this gets enough notes cus its a tricky topic}
FUTURE- Usually we use IR + a to describe an action to be done in the near future, and otherwise, the future endings (é , as, a, emos, an) are used. {I used this interchangeably tho and never got it wrong so}
PERFECT- Okay so to make things easier I’ll just give an example in English
present: i have eaten (he comido)
past: i had eaten pies at the party (había comido)
future: i will have eaten this apple when I’m finished running (habré comido)
conditional: i would have eaten if you did not call me (habría comido)
(pLease be careful with the present perfect and the past perfect if you’re confused visit this)
Okay thanks for reading, please reply any corrections, and other tips for remembering when to use tenses. Love y’all :)
