It was a smaller gift than Bruce had hoped; however, it had managed to keep for who-knows-how-long in the shipwreck which Bruce had discovered in the Pacific Ocean. It wasn’t elaborate but it was beautiful. Delicately, Bruce deposited his gift atop Jack’s work desk where he was sure the human would eventually see it.
A little monkey figurine, hand-carved from jade, sat atop the work desk.
BELATED BIRTHDAY BRUCIE <3
Jack had fallen asleep at some point without taking note of the new object in his peripheral vision. But Bruce was right, there was no avoiding the dazzling gleam when he finally creaked his eyes open at some hour between midnight and morning the next day. Oh well, he didn't find the day of his birth particularly different from the rest.
But he did find the jade monkey, gleaming in his work light, and shot up from his drool puddle in surprise. It definitely wasn't one of his own monkey carvings, those were all cut from wood and quartz !
Scooping up the little sculpture in his hand, he reveled in the sea-rolled smoothness of the carving, lines turned naturalistic and curved, making the monkey round and jovial looking. It felt good in his hands and he couldn't help but rub his thumbs over the surface over and over. Oh Bruce, that was good taste.
