oikawa coming to school with his glasses and everyone fawning over him even more than usual and iwa is like “ugh, what’s the big deal, he looks the same?”

but makki notices that iwa is a lot more quiet and absent than usual, lost in thought. he’s been admiring oikawa and thinking about his pretty face the whole day. in class that day he was barely paying attention, his gaze always finding his counterpart.

he can see why classmates were gushing over him, ofc he could. he’s been admiring tooru all his life.

later when they walked home together after practice oikawa finally spoke up about what he’s been noticing the entire day. “do you think it looks shit? or are you just jealous because of all the girls who asked me out on a date today?” he tried sounding cocky but he also knew that it wouldn’t matter because iwaizumi could see through his voice whenever it was anything but genuine. so iwa knew that oikawa was anxious about it.

“the glasses suit you.” iwaizumi reassures softly and watches as oikawa’s insecurities wash down his face, getting replaced with a small smile and bright eyes. “you think so?” “yes. you look good. why’re you surprised? everyone’s been complimenting you all day long. it’s not like they would go through the hassle if they didn’t mean it.” he scoffs.

“yeah but coming from you it’s different. i know you wouldn’t say it if you didn’t mean it and i trust your judgement. so thank you.” oikawa only ever cared about hajime’s opinion. everyone else’s was hollow to him. iwa’s was the only one that held any weight. “always.” iwa says, nudging him lightly.

it was a promise to always be there whenever oikawa spent too much time in his head and get him out.
