Acting on pure instinct, she leaned in, cutting him off mid-chuckle. Their lips met hesitantly at first, especially as it took him a moment to catch up, but that didn’t last. The fervour of the kiss escalated within seconds.

It was like having an out of body experience. Katniss didn’t go around making out with strangers. There was nothing inherently wrong with the notion, it just wasn’t how she was wired. For a number of reasons, it usually took a few dates before she felt comfortable enough to get physical with someone and she could count on one hand the number of times she’d been to a nightclub. Yet there she was, practically in a man’s lap, attached at the mouth for the whole bar to see.

She wanted to blame the couple of drinks she’d consumed, but knew that wasn’t what lowered her inhibitions. She was drunk on him. On his sweet smile, clear blue eyes, and witty commentary.

“Wow,” he murmured when they parted momentarily to catch their breath.

The awed expression on his face made her smile. She cradled his cheek with one hand, basking in it. No one had ever looked at her that way before.
