Eagle Con was the place to be at on May 8th and May 9th, with fantastic guests like Okudas of the Star Trek Franchise. There was a lot to see from sketches, illustrations, digital art and even comic book lovers dressed up in costumes. Eagle Con was not only an event that celebrated heroes it was a function that explored issues of race, orientation, identity and representation in comic books. Eagle Con was a huge success with the attendance of a variety of people and it gained wide enough recognition to receive an editorial in the LA Weekly web page. The forums at Eagle Con encouraged the audience to think critically about how super heroes are portrayed in comic books and in movies and how sometimes certain races and ethnic groups go underrepresented. The purpose of Eagle Con was to bring people together and be able to foster discussions of diversity in the world of comics and it certainly served its purpose. Cal State LA students who attended the event raved about it and were talking about Eagle Con on their social networking sites, thus making this two-day event a great success!
