Official Post from Earl Foolish: I've been on the wrong computer so far this month (haven't had any time to spend in the studio at all!) 💜✌️🏻
My Patreon is now live!
I used to be that kid who would draw literally all the time. When classmates would go to NYE parties, I sat in my aunt's kitchen with my pencils. Through periods of time, it's even been my main source of income. Though, since a couple of years ago, I've been finding it harder and harder to draw on a regular basis, and the more time I let pass between each time, the harder it becomes to pick up a pencil.
To challenge myself, and to invite you to support me in the process, I've decided that I will draw at least one print quality illustration or design each month for a year, and share that with you as real printed post cards or posters. One a month might not sound like much, but it's a good place to start - and who knows I might be able to pick up the pace!
The above image is an example of two illustrations I made to kick off this project, a dramatic sky for January, and a colourful interior scene for February.
For these posters and cards to fill their intended function - calendars - you obviously need them a little in advance, and I need to take things like printing and shipping times into consideration, so I will send them out about two months in advance! Since I'm a little short on time for January's illustration, I'll send out both Jan and Feb in December to make up for it! So it's basically two for the price of one!

Nothing says "new season" quite as a new wall full of inspo
The winter has been long and I've been finding it hard to stay busy. Even with the fairly tangible plan I had, it was difficult knowing how to start. Then last week I got a very interesting email from a person curating an exhibition about the regional embroidery style "Blekingesöm", the exact thing I've been wanting to create a collection based on!
Long story short, I spent most of Monday afternoon looking through her wonderful archives, loving every single one of the weird birds I found! If everything goes according to plan, the new collection will be ready mid April, and it will feature at the exhibition at Blekinge Museum in Karlskrona that starts April 18th.
This is now the perfect time for you guys to speak up if you've got some feedback you've been mulling over. What would you like to see in the future? Was there something you felt was missing from the Blodmagi collection? Am I doing everything right and should be continuing on just like I have? Anything, just let me know.
So what's going on?
I’d just like to apologize for things being very quiet from the earl foolish HQ lately. As you’re probably well aware, it’s a one-person-business and the winter months have as always been rather cruel to me.
I have ideas for the next collection but they still haven’t actually left the cosyness of my brain, which means that it might be hard to get it all done for an April release like I aimed for.
The theme for the the next collection is going to be the Swedish region where I’m currently living, Blekinge, and more specifically the local style of folk embroidery known as “blekingesöm”. It might not end up being quite as edgy as previous collections but it’s an idea I’ve wanted to realize for almost a year now, and I think it’s time.
As a part of this, it’s my intention to “bring home” other parts of the production too. The cutting process has so far been done in England, but I now want to have it done as locally as possible. The region is quite renowned for its advances within waterjet cutting, and it’s something I want to look into. There are several companies nearby that specialize in this technique, and to turn to the UK for laser cutting when I have this expertise so nearby feels a lot like the Swedish expression “crossing the river to fetch water”.
Focusing on making a highly local collection also opens up the potential to apply for local cultural grants and maybe collaborating with the local museums, which is another thing I’ve had on my mind for quite some time.
When I reached out to you all a little while back to help with some financial troubles, I was overwhelmed with the support you all gave me. It’s something I am going to return, so be on the lookout for discounts especially for returning customers. You all really do mean a lot to me and I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for you.
As always, if you have any thoughts, feedback or suggestions, the ask box is always open.
