The Econoliniad
Having made the foolish decision to buy -- sight unseen -- a 1963 Ford Econoline Travel Wagon from my wife’s uncle, I had to get 350 miles north to pick it up. Who buys a 50-year-old car and drives it home 350 miles the same day? Over a mountain pass in December? An idiot.
I took BART.
I took Amtrak.
I caught a ride in a ‘68 VW Westfalia...
And then, in a rural driveway in southern Oregon, I finally met the Travel Wagon in person.
It was already getting dark but I lit out for home right away.
