I’ll talk about EarthWalk since it’s my latest story!
EarthWalk, the building, was given that name because of its animate abilities. It uses four enormous stone pillars on each corner of its frame to walk the earth as it pleases or as it’s told. It was speculated that the building was simply charmed, but recently discovered ancient scrolls written by the wizards at the time noted that, if it was charmed, none of their attempts to undo it worked, which led to the modern idea that the building is simply alive. Both students and faculty have mentioned “odd creaking and shifting” noises at night that, while expected for a building as old as this, are strangely similar in rhythm to breathing. Students have also shared their experiences with having the doors to faculty only rooms slammed and locked shut in their faces after attempted entry, particularly in places of the building where the resident ghosts do not reside.
Orbs house the ghosts of previous magical professors or wizards that have passed. Each orb is unique, as is the wisdom and knowledge they can give you when pondered. Mostly, their wisdom and judgment is right. But not always. Many students have used orbs to try and cheat on assignments by asking them a question related to it, but professors have learned to recognize when a paper has been “orbed” by the usually drastically different writing styles or the supposed knowledge of topics that have yet to be discussed. Discussions with the ghosts about this have been held, and while some agreed to refuse to answer suspiciously specific questions, some do so anyway out of boredom.
Forest That Hates You has been attempted to be cut down multiple times by non-magical governments, although after repeatedly multiple losing workers and officials to Whipping Willows or the Bog Frog(s), attempts were eventually abandoned. Forest That Hates You was designated a protected area a few years later, although it was unable to be made into a national state park. When the Trees were asked their opinions on this, they stated that they “DON’T CARE” and to “GET OUT”. There is only 1 Forest That Hates You in existence.
A Magician's Permit is needed if wizards want to use and demonstrate magical abilities in non-magical places of residence. This law was issued after multiple reports were made of wizards turning non-magical people into a pile of rocks or having casted similar spells during fights or arguments. The morality of turning a human being into an inanimate object was called into question, and while it was agreed that it was not technically murder, it could possibly be highly traumatic and should therefore be outlawed.
Every year a select number of non-magical students are allowed to enroll into EarthWalk if they wish to experience and learn about magic and its history. The selection process is very thorough and strict, and often times more people are rejected than they are let in. This is both to ensure the respect of the culture, and the safety of its members. A former non-magical student was allowed in after tricking the system, wherein they vandalized and attempted to destroy a part of the building. The punishment for this was being turned into the bricks used to repair the damage done.
