This piece by EastChange (Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Aesthetics at my very own Beijing University) explores the process and practice of duplication and mimicry in contemporary art. EastChange argues that ever since Marcel Duchamp's Fountain, contemporary art has been bombarded with a series of conceptual readymades. With the ideal of duplication being pushed even further by the factory works of Andy Warhol, EastChange's work asserts that "contemporary art is basically an imitation of Duchamp and Andy Warhol."
