From New Zealand to Sri Lanka, attacking people where they worship is a despicable act. Hate has no religion. Radicalization is the issue, not faith.
So Jerry Holbert has a stock ‘person’ image in his mind, and his way of making them non-white is to just change the skin tone.
Not that I know the first thing about Sri Lanka, I’ll admit my ignorance without reservation, but if I was being paid to communicate facts and opinion in a visual medium I would do a little research about what an average (to the extent that such a thing is quantifiable) Sri Lankan looks like.
Though there has been a serious dearth of cartoons about this event that actually show Sri Lankans. There’s been more featuring Jesus or stereotypical radical Muslims. Jerry fucking Holbert actually took a step they didn’t.
What an indictment of the editorial cartooning profession as a whole.
Jesus killed someone and got some prison ink.
That’s all I can take away from this cartoon on its own.
