Eastern District
Part 1
The Eastern District of Hong Kong borders Victoria Harbor. This harbor has a long history, and helped make Hong Kong a center for trade.
Originally called Hong Kong Harbour, the name was changed to Victoria Harbor, after Queen Victoria, as a way to show it would provide safety to the British fleet. During the Taiping Rebellion, a conflict between the Manchu-led Qing dynasty and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, there was almost a naval fight between the two sides.
Nowadays, the harbor provides passage for ships and is a famous landmark for Hong Kong.
