#Repost @redcrookedsky (@get_repost) ・・・ After 20 years of legal effort, the #Monacan, #Chickahominy, #EasternChickahominy, #Nansemond and #UpperMattaponi have received federal recognition through the signing of the Thomasina E. Jordan Indian Tribes of Virginia Federal Recognition Act of 2017 into law. We celebrate with our family and friends who are part of this victory yet we remember that the sovereignty of our first nations is not—and never has been—in the government's control. We stand with our relatives who remain "unrecognized." We recognize you and we are on this road together for life.
