Thinking about it, it's a little of messed up that Laura Lee was the one to give the eulogy for Rachel Goldman, someone she admitted she barley knew since Rachel had only just moved up from JV, considering the fact the JV girls were also on the plane. In season 2 Akilah tells Tai about this cute pre-game ritual she and Rachel used to do together. Wouldn't that have been a more fitting thing to talk about at her funeral than Laura Lee saying Rachel was good at math and Van blurting out that she saw her carrying a flute one time? To be fair Laura Lee did ask if anyone else wanted to speak, so maybe the others were still too shell shocked to eulogize their dead teammate.
I think it also adds to the tragedy of her and Akilah’s friendship.
Akilah got to go on a trip with her even after she moved up to Varsity just to end up stranded in the wilderness without her best friend, to the point where she couldn’t even bring herself to speak at her pseudo-funeral
(She also probably missed her real funeral assuming she lived because the parents probably held funerals after they didn’t come back after so long)
Or the writer just didn’t plan their friendship but that’s no fun to think about
