I know I just posted a foundation/highlighting tutorial, like, three weeks ago, but I’ve recently changed up the products I use and the way I apply them. I’m trying to start switching over to cruelty-free products as much as possible, and I’ve had to change my routine to accommodate them. (As I run out of things, I will replace them with products that weren’t tested on animals.) I actually like this new routine a lot, so I thought I’d share it with you guys.
1. As always, start with a clean, moisturized face. I would also recommend tying your hair back or at least putting on a headband, just to get it out of the way.
2. Apply a primer as a base. I’m using e.l.f.’s Tone Adjusting Face Primer, which is one of my new cruelty-free products. I was a little nervous about this product when I bought it, because it’s green. But it actually works really well for neutralizing redness and reducing the appearance of blemishes, and my makeup definitely goes on smoother and stays on longer when I use it. I like it a lot better than the bb cream I was using as a makeup base before.
(As you can see, my under-eye circles have been a lot more intense lately. Let’s just say I’m not getting as much sleep as I would like.)
3. Go ahead and get your eyeshadow and liner out of the way. I’m still doing my eye makeup exactly the same way I’ve always done it, so I didn’t see a need to show that again.
4. Use concealer to cover up your under-eye circles and any acne you might have [see below left picture]. I’m still using Maybelline’s Coverstick for this, but I plan on switching to a cruelty-free product as soon as this one runs out. Blend the concealer out with your fingers [see below right picture].
5. Take your favorite foundation and dot it all over your face [see below left picture]. I’m using Maybelline’s Fit Me Matte Foundation. (I tried to get e.l.f.’s foundation when I was at the store buying the other products, but they actually didn’t have it in a light enough color for me -- will probably see if I can find it online soon.) Blend the foundation with your fingers or a makeup sponge (I like using the sponge).
(It looks like there’s something on my face in the above right picture, but it’s actually just the way the sunlight was shining through my blinds.)
6. If you’re going to use any blush, contouring, or highlighting, do it now. I didn’t use any of those products today, and I’ve already done tutorials on how to apply them, so I just skipped over this step.
7. Set your makeup with powder. I’m using e.l.f.’s HD Powder in Translucent (cruelty-free), but if your skin isn’t extremely pale like mine you could definitely use a powder that matches your foundation color if you want. You can apply it with a powder brush, or with the cute lil powderpuff that comes with the product.
8. Go ahead and do your mascara now. I’m still on the hunt for a good cruelty-free volumizing mascara, so message me if you have any suggestions.
9. This step is completely optional, but I highly recommend it, especially if you’re going to be doing a lot of physical activity. Seal your makeup with a setting spray. I recently bought e.l.f.’s Makeup Mist & Set (in case you haven’t guessed, all of e.l.f.’s products are cruelty-free), and let me tell you. This stuff works wonders. The first day I used it I had someone LITERALLY shove a plate full of whipped cream in my face (long story), and after I cleaned up, my makeup was still perfect. It’s also been great to prevent creasing in hot, humid weather. This is literally my favorite product on the planet right now, and the best part is that I only payed $3.00 for it. (Just be warned: you’ll probably need makeup remover to get your makeup OFF after using this spray to set it.)
10. Finish the look with your favorite lip color. If you’re wearing a lot of blush or a heavy contour, I would recommend a nude lipstick or gloss, but otherwise you can really wear just about anything. The color I’m wearing in the below pictures is Clinique’s Different Lipstick in A Different Grape (which is tested on animals, unfortunately, but I received two tubes of it in a gift set last Christmas and have been using them ever since). Red lipstick is my secret lifehack for instant confidence.
Looking for an easy way to do your crease? Check out this tutorial for an easy natural crease eyeshadow look. This look is really simple to do and looks very polished without a lot of hard work, just blend blend blend. For the crease, a eyeshadow powder or eyeliner pencil would work, just makes sure you take the time to blend out properly. Also try using a mascara instead of eyelashes to complete the look. Or add a different colored eyeliner for a pop of color while still rocking the natural look.
4 Simple Steps For The Perfect Day Make-up
Step out into your day with these Easy Tips For Applying Your Day Makeup.
We always pay extra attention to makeup when stepping out at night, but it is equally important to wear the right kind of makeup in the daytime as well. In the natural light of day, the flaws and imperfections of our skin are more noticeable and needs to be carefully hidden. The wrong kind of makeup can also make you end up looking overtly made up or too dull. It is also important to consider…

#EMPHASISING THE EYES – It’s All About The Eyes
So the makeup application rule goes as follows: Either make your eyes or your lips the focus point of your face. Not both at the same time. However, Samer Khouzami or Scott Barnes are makeup artists who know how to bring those two features together in the most cohesive and beautifully blended way. This post is about the eyes. Now be warned, for most people who don’t use a lot of liner, don’t…
