I'm thinking of making commissions for my art but I'm not sure how much to charge. Is there some sort of equation that other artists know that I'm missing out on? Like, time spent plus materials used divided by the quatlity of picture time quatlity of shading plus amount of colour etc.? It would be a big of help if you could give me some advice.
Okay so what I'm going to say is just how I do stuff, it's not the absolute truth. Don't hesitate to make researches on your own or question other artists who have much more experience than me with commissions. I'm gonna talk about digital commissions here because... I simply have never done traditonal commissions and I don't want to bullshit things.
There's nothing such as a complicated "equation" to make your prices. I personally go by 1hr of work = 10USD... and that's pretty much it??? Then you see how much time drawing a certain something takes you and you put your price on that. It's kinda tough though because sometimes you may feel like "damn that's a bit too pricy..." but well yeah it is! And I want to say... of fucking course it is. The commissioner is paying for a custom picture of whatever they want, they are buying your years of hardwork to get better and better, so yeah, it's pricy. Art is a luxury.
That's pretty much what I have to say. Commissions are not that hard when you think about it. If you want more advice, I recommend you this post. It's pretty good. c:
