Foods & drinks I’m no longer allowed according to my orthodontist:

apple, unless cut into smaller pieces before eating

cakes

chocolate

fizzy drinks

hard candy

tea & coffee 

hard meats

pizza crust

anything too chewy and too hard

anything too sweet

Because these might either do one or more of the following:

dissolve the glue on my brackets

break the brackets

make oral hygiene hard to maintain

Also I am to not bite too hard

So basically most of the “fun” foods are off limits.

Dishes that would take me 20 minutes to finish before I had braces fitted now take me about 50 minutes to finish.
