Because I overthink everything regarding this show, I’m trying to establish an overall timeline for both Elena of Avalor and Sofia the First. STF is kind of a mess early on because I don’t think they expected it to get so popular, but EOA is fairly consistent. There’s just one major issue I’ve encountered.
So in Three Jaquins and a Princess, Isabel states very clearly, “I’m eleven years, three months, and two days old.” Awesome, she’s actually aging! This means her eleventh birthday was three months before this episode, and her tenth birthday was a year before that! But... in King of the Carnaval, when Elena gives Isabel the bracelet, she tells her, “Mami wore this for your tenth birthday,” so Isabel turned ten before Shuriki invaded.
Thanks to magical entrapments, Elena, Isabel, and their grandparents’ birthdays are offset from what they were pre-Shuriki. For example, if Elena was 16 years and 95 days old when she was stuck in the amulet, she would still be 16 years and 95 days old when she was freed, but the calendar day might be very different. She would then turn 17 years old 270 days after she was freed, regardless of her actual birthday. Applying this to Isabel, we can infer two things: Shuriki invaded within three months and two days of Isabel’s tenth birthday, and the events of EatSoA occurred less than one year and three months before Three Jaquins and a Princess.
My best guess is that Three Jaquins and a Princess occurs in either November or December, the second week of November at the earliest because it’s three episodes after The Jewel of Maru. This means that EatSoA took place in the second week of August the previous year at the earliest. This is corroborated by the season 1 timeline, where in Party of a Lifetime, the Allegria’s original launch date and thus the date of the episode is mentioned to be July 13th. This means that Realm of the Jaquins, which falls three episodes later, takes place in late July at the earliest and First Day of Rule takes place exactly a year before that.
But in EatSoA, Sofia and her family travel to Avalor for summer vacation right after school ends, and it takes them two weeks to reach Avalor. Also, all the pink amulet episodes in season 3 of STF as well as season 4 through the Mystic Isles special take place before October 6 (Craig Gerber confirmed that The Birthday Wish takes place shortly before The Princess and the Protector). If EatSoA is in mid-August, that’s 14 STF episodes in six or fewer weeks, with at least the first 6 before the start of the new school year. It would make more sense for EatSoA to take place in June to accommodate these episodes, but Isabel’s birthday and other information rules that out.
The easiest solution, of course, is to completely ignore STF and let the EOA timeline speak for itself. But I just wanted to share what I’ve put together so far and see if anyone has any ideas or sees something that I’ve missed.
