i was tagged by @writeouswriter, thank you!!
for this one i used multiple wips because i, unfortunately, don’t think i have anything that has a whole lot in it yet? i’m completely redrafting (rewriting?) what was my longest work, which definitely doesn’t help with that.
A moonless night. The stars were bright—so, so bright, it almost seemed they were lights and not stars, held in the tapestry of the sky by an almost otherworldly force, thousands of miles away.
“What are you doing all the way out here?” the voice makes the child jump, and they turn around quickly. An older man, tall with grey hair, was leaning on a shovel, a not-yet half-dug hole near him.
“I... I got lost,” the child eventually nearly whimpered, lying, eyes wide as they watched him. The man’s lips twisted up in a smile, almost unnerving yet strangely calming for the small child, at the same time.
“Okay, well, what does it mean when you dream about a giant cat telling you that ‘time is a relative flat circle. Don’t trust your narrator’ before turning into a bunch of hamsters that run off into the forest?”
“In his hollow cavern, he felt the buzz of the magics—archaic and newer alike—swirling round, and he finally awoke from his deep slumber. He groaned as he was dragged into the land of the waking like a spirit that had been in the underworld for well over a thousand years being dragged up the the surface to wall amongst the living—which, in a way, he found he was quite similar to that except that he was, well, alive.”
As in, there was a cat on the premises. When I tried to shoo him away, he merely barked and trotted closer, then flickered out of sight and teleported to sit up on my shoulder. He cannot be gotten rid of, now, as the building is aware that he is in the building.
