Sun-kissed seating with a generous helping of Irish charm in Clerkenwell
Hidden through a narrow doorway, the beautiful courtyard of J+A Café is the ideal place to escape the throng of the city.
There’s something really wholesome about this place. They appear to have found the perfect balance, serving up unpretentious homely food with a flash of modern flair. The menu has a good mix of all the usual lunchtime fare, with a few Irish favourites thrown in for good measure. Their speciality coffee and teas are from Atkinson & Co of Lancaster, and their food is some of the closest to homemade that can be found in London. J+A pride themselves on good ingredients cooked well, so expect doorstop bread and fresh vegetables all the way and nothing done by halves. They do Irish stew with an authenticity and heartiness that can’t be beaten, and their steak sandwich with crusty white bread and crisps is a fantastic hunger-killer. Oh, and don’t go without a slice of the chocolate and Morello cherry cake, home-baked with love and plenty of whipped cream. Address: 4 Sutton Lane London EC1M 5PU Nearest Station: Farringdon
