Whilst your speeder breaks down, you are lucky to come across a certain handsome clone that happens to be helpful in repairing it for you.
Warnings: Fluff. Brief mention of alcohol. Echo is quite shy. Accidental kiss.
Authors note 1: I’m a sucker for accidental kisses too 😫 this was so so much fun to write and I maaaaay have got carried away a little but this is just total FLUFF 💖 thanks for the request!
Written July 2021. Rewritten January 2024.
authors note 2: decided to rewrite/edit this one as it’s one of my favourites and maybe the one what made me fall for Echo.
The dawn poured into your room, painting Coruscant's familiar hues with a vibrant light, a stark contrast to the recent cloudy days. Its radiance pierced through the blinds, jolting you awake with an obnoxious whine escaping your lips as the brightness invaded your sleepy cocoon. Rolling away from the blinding glare, you reluctantly pried open your eyelids, groggily reaching for the datapad on your bedside table.
0946 hours stared back at you, evoking a disinterested hum before you settled back against the pillow, intending to steal a moment's rest.
Reality struck like a bolt as you abruptly jolted upright, a sudden realization hitting you like a meteor. "Kriff! I'm late!" With a clumsy scramble, you hurled yourself out of bed, entangling your legs in the sheets and crashing onto the floor with a resounding thud. Undeterred, you sprang back up, hurtling towards the refresher, immediately igniting the rushing water.
Frantically scrubbing away weariness, the steaming water cleared your senses, cursing your forgetfulness for neglecting to set the alarm.
Today marked your return to your family's business, a day your punctual parents emphasised greatly. While it would have been somehow easier to brush off if you worked for anyone else, promising your parents punctuality made your tardiness a harder pill to swallow. Dressed hastily in work attire, socks forgotten, you slipped on your shoes, dashing out of the apartment and racing toward the awaiting transport in the basement.
Spotting your speeder bike, you ignited the engine and bolted out of the building, narrowly missing collision with the busy workers hurrying about their day.
Glancing down at the watch strapped to your arm, you groaned at the realisation that you had less than five minutes to arrive, despite knowing there was at least another ten minutes worth of traffic ahead. Resigned to your impending lateness, you pulled your speeder bike to a temporary stop, mentally preparing a repertoire of excuses for your inevitable 'tardiness.'
Pressing onward, you were making decent progress until an unwelcome occurrence struck — the engine of your speeder began to sputter, faltering unexpectedly.
"Oh, not now, please…" you whined, wincing as the mechanical sounds grew more alarming, bolts rattling amidst ominous spluttering. Steering out of the transport lane, you found a suitable spot to dismount and inspect the damage firsthand.
Rolling up your work shirt sleeves, you cautiously approached the speeder’s rear to diagnose the issue. However, just as your fingertips grazed the engine, it emitted a disgruntled clatter, spiraling into a sudden short circuit, spewing sparks and a cloud of smoke.
Standing in disbelief, hands now resting on your hips, you watched helplessly as your speeder practically disintegrated before your eyes.
A series of sniggers captured your attention, drawing your gaze towards three figures—two Gotals and a Pantoran —observing your misfortune with apparent amusement.
"What are you gawping at? Get going," you snapped sharply, very uncharacteristically if you but it was simply fueled by their mockery.
The trio departed, leaving behind a parting taunt as they vanished down the street. Rolling your eyes, you glanced at the time, confirming your undeniable lateness.
Frustration boiled within you—the combination of an empty stomach, impractical work attire (now glaringly obvious as you realise you picked up the wrong shoes entirely and of course, no socks), and the catastrophic breakdown of your bike led to an exasperated groan. In a fit of irritation, you unleashed a series of frustrated kicks upon the malfunctioning heap of metal in front of you, uncaring of the odd glances from passersby.
"Stupid... piece... of... trash!" you grunted vehemently between each kick.
Eventually ceasing your assault on the bike, your hands moved to your hair, pulling it into a haphazard bun atop your head in a futile attempt to alleviate your frustration. Yet, the tension lingered, unrelenting.
"You know, kicking and shouting at it won't repair it, ma'am."
Startled by the slightly muffled yet modified voice, you turned to find a figure detaching themselves from a nearby wall, stepping closer. Despite not noticing them upon initially dismounting, a tinge of embarrassment tinged your cheeks as someone had caught you mid-outburst.
"Maybe so. But there's no chance of me fixing it in time for work," you uttered with a defeated sigh, turning to face your bike, a faint mist of smoke still emanating from its main engine.
"Is there a mechanic pit nearby?" inquired the stranger, maintaining a cautious distance.
You pondered for a moment, acknowledging the wisdom in the stranger's advice. However, the realisation hit you hard—due to oversleeping, you hadn't even grabbed your bag containing your purse and license. Even if you wanted a mechanic's help, the lack of credits and ownership identification would hinder any possible repair.
"There is, but I don't have anything to prove that this pile of junk is mine," you remarked, rolling your eyes in frustration.
The stranger then knelt beside you, examining the bike closely. It slowly dawned on you that this person was some sort of clone trooper. The familiar sound of their voices had echoed countless times around you, but the distinct armor they wore differed from any you'd seen before—dark greys and blacks accented with red lining, the helmet which was slightly different to others you had seen, concealing his face.
Embarrassment flooded through you; here knelt a trooper serving the Republic, while you, in a fit of petulance, had a minor breakdown over a speeder.
As you gazed down at the trooper, absorbed in observing their armor, you missed his initial question, lost in your internal conflict.
"Sorry, what was that?" you hastily inquired, snapping out of your reverie.
"I said that I could try and fix it. It should only take me around twenty minutes or so," he suggested, rising to his full height and moving around the speeder to assess the damage.
"What? Really? You would help me?" you asked incredulously, taken aback by his unexpected kindness.
Beneath his helmet, a smile played across his lips as he shrugged casually. "Why not? You haven't given me a reason not to," came his simple reply before he delved into repairing the speeder.
Observing from a distance, you couldn't help but notice the scomp device attached to his forearm, sparking your curiosity about its purpose. However, you knew better than to pry into personal matters, so you shifted your focus to something hopefully less intrusive—his rank.
"So, are you a Commander?" you ventured after a few minutes of shared silence, the only sound being the gentle whirring of his device as he worked.
Peering at you from behind his visor, he questioned, "What makes you say that?"
Gesturing towards his waist, you tilted your head slightly. "You're wearing a Kama, and most Commanders I’ve seen tend to wear them," you remarked simply.
He nodded in understanding but then shook his head moments later. "Ah I see but no, I was an Arc Trooper a while ago."
Picking up on the slight hesitation in his voice, you probed cautiously, "Oh... are you not one anymore?"
"It's... complicated. I fight with a different band of brothers now. I was part of the 501st, but... things happen," he trailed off, hinting at a deeper, untold story.
Sensing the reluctance to delve further into the topic, you respectfully refrained from pressing any further. Opting instead for a quiet moment of respite, you found a small crate to perch upon, crossing your legs and leaning back against the wall, basking in the warmth of the morning rays.
Echo couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy witnessing your frustration after the encounter with the mocking trio. Having just finished gathering resources from the nearby market for Tech, he saw you and decided to intervene, deeming the resources non-urgent. Well, in his mind anyway - maybe not Techs.
His scomp unit snugly embedded within your speeder, Echo glanced up in your direction, noticing your comfortable perch on the crates, a gentle smile gracing your lips as the Coruscant sun enveloped you. Taking a moment to fully appreciate your presence, he noticed your striking beauty, a thought he wished he'd acknowledged earlier.
Unaware of how long he'd been gazing, you sensed the weight of someone's eyes upon you. Though looking skyward, you stole a glance in his direction, offering a soft smile. Only then did Echo snap out of his reverie, startled by another clashing noise from your speeder, prompting him to hurriedly withdraw his scomp unit. Grateful for the helmet concealing his flushed expression, he started an attempt of some small talk.
As you conversed, the exchange flowed effortlessly. You explained that you were late for work at your family's old blacksmith shop, establishing a connection through understanding his armor. It was pleasent to talk to someone normally for a change so much so, it seemed both of you found yourselves reluctant to stop talking, secretly hoping he'd prolong the speeder repairs.
"Well, I think I'm done here," he announced somewhat awkwardly, taking a step back after switching the engine on to much of his reluctance.
You descended from your perch and approached to inspect his handiwork, taking a seat on the speeder and revving it up. The engine roared back to life, sounding as good as new.
"Wow. Thank you so much," you expressed in wonder, turning to face the clone with another grateful smile. "I, uh..." You fumbled in your pockets, producing a small handful of credits you had stashed away. "It's not much, but I don't know how else to repay you for helping me."
Tilting his head slightly, he glanced down at the credits in your palm, then returned his gaze to meet yours, witnessing your sincere gratitude.
"That won't be necessary," he assured you, reaching out with his flesh hand to gently close yours within his own.
The unexpected touch sent a pleasant shiver through you, prompting you to suppress a breath to conceal the slight tremor in your voice. "Oh, well, thanks," you responded, a hint of shyness colouring your tone.
"Ma'am," he acknowledged with a nod, stepping back to give you space to depart. As you moved past him, a sudden impulse halted your steps, and you glanced over your shoulder to find him already walking away.
"Hey! Wait!"
Echo paused at the sound of your voice, turning to meet your gaze as you faced him.
"What's your name?" you inquired, prompting a slight chuckle from Echo.
"I go by Echo,"
Your brows furrowed, a playful smirk forming on your lips. "Echo?"
"Yes, Echo."
"Echo?" you repeated.
"Erm, yes?" His reply came with a gentle laugh behind his helmet.
"I think you missed my joke," you teased, a glint of mischief in your eyes.
Another laugh escaped Echo. "What's your name then?"
As you shared your name, he repeated it, playing along. However, as much as you wanted to linger, you knew you had to leave.
"Thanks again... Echo," you said, savoring the way his name rolled off your tongue. Echo, too, appreciated the way you pronounced his name, watching you as you gave him a wave and rode off.
The memory of your encounter with Echo lingered, weaving its way into your thoughts even as days passed. The masked individual occupied a prominent place in your mind.
There were even moments when you lay in bed after a long day at the blacksmith's, his image playing on a loop in your thoughts. You pondered over the instance when you caught him gazing at you. Was it mere curiosity or perhaps a hint of something more?
His voice, mostly monotonous, echoed in your memory, but there was that tiny laughter you managed to extract from him. Reflecting on your conversation, you marveled at its seamless flow—no awkward pauses, no misunderstandings, and no hint of any negative feelings.
As the days rolled by, you couldn't help but wonder if Echo thought about that encounter as much as you did.
Thanks to Echo's help, you managed to be punctual for your subsequent shifts, yet the barrage of questions from your family about the initial lateness persisted. But, non surprisingly, each ride to work became an opportunity to catch sight of Echo's distinctive trooper armor. You'd linger a little too long at stop lights, hoping for another glimpse, but amidst the sea of white-clad clones, spotting him again seemed futile.
One afternoon during your break, a craving for a quick snack lured you to the nearby market.
As you purchased a tempting pastry, ready to take a bite, you froze at the sight of Echo down the street. He hadn't noticed you, but he stood among two individuals who clearly weren't clones (or so you thought), despite their similar armor. One was exceptionally tall and robust, while the other, about Echo's size, sported long dark hair and had half of his face inked.
Caught in a moment of staring, you felt a jolt of panic when the larger figure abruptly turned his gaze toward you, smiling, and then grabbing Echo's shoulders and pointing in your direction. Feigning nonchalance in a panic, you quickly averted your body and eyes, pretending interest elsewhere. Yet, the clearing of someone's throat behind you snapped you back to reality.
Swiftly turning, your eyes met Echo's visor. "Hello, ma'am," he greeted, sounding slightly flustered.
"Hi!" you chirped, attempting to act as if you hadn't already noticed him. "Echo, right? It's good to see you again." The casualness in your tone masked the fact that he had been occupying your thoughts for the past few days.
"It's good to see you too. How's your speeder?" Echo inquired, a faint smile playing on his lips as he waited for your response, although he still wore his helmet.
You chuckled softly, the sound carrying a hint of gratitude. "Really good. All thanks to you, of course," you replied, offering a genuine smile in return.
Echo then found himself momentarily lost for words, his usual composure faltering in the unexpected encounter. He silently chided himself for feeling this awkward, partially blaming Wrecker for nudging him into this situation. He'd resisted Wrecker's nudging, but the big clone's persistence had overridden Echo's reluctance. Maybe mentioning you to the others wasn’t the best idea.
Sensing the growing tension, Hunter decided to step in. "Echo, care to introduce us to your friend?" he prodded, taking a small step forward to break the mounting silence.
Your curiosity piqued, you waited for Echo's response, noticing the subtle yet telling exchange between him and Hunter. "Uh, sure. Hunter, Wrecker," Echo gestured to each of his brothers beside him before introducing you by name. "I helped her with her speeder when it broke down a few days ago."
"Is that so?" Hunter's tone was mildly intrigued, though you sensed a hint of prior familiarity. Had he been speaking about you?
"Yeah,” you start, not overthinking things, “Echo was really kind and helpful that day, although he wouldn't let me properly thank him," you added with a subtle grin, trying to lighten the mood.
"Aw, was the pretty girl too nice for you to accept any money?" Wrecker teased with a hearty laugh.
Echo's jaw tensed slightly, choosing to ignore Wrecker's remark. He shifted his focus back to you, aiming to redirect the conversation. "It's just that you seemed stressed enough that day, and any decent person would have done the same," he explained, his voice carrying a note of sincerity amidst the banter.
"Huh, you clearly don't know Coruscant that well. There's a limited amount of people who would have helped, but I'm really glad it was you, Echo," you countered, your tone carrying a genuine appreciation.
Once again, his name slipped from your lips like a reverent prayer.
"Well, I'm glad I could help," Echo replied with a smile, though obscured behind his helmet. He couldn't fathom why he hadn't removed his helmet in your presence but a pang of disappointment surged within him, prompting him to keep his face concealed to shield himself from any potential disapproval.
"I should start heading back to work now..." You sighed, glancing at your datapad. "Best not to be late again."
"Ah, I see. Well, it was nice to see you again—" Echo began to bid farewell.
"Echo will gladly walk you back to work. Won't you?" Hunter interjected abruptly, throwing a pointed look at his brother, who returned a blank stare.
"Y-yes, I would be happy to do that if you want?" Echo turned to you, a sudden hint of hopefulness in his voice. Your soft giggle and nod of agreement uplifted his spirits.
"I'd happily have the company," you confirmed, prompting a playful nudge from Wrecker towards Echo.
As you bid a swift farewell to Hunter and Wrecker, you began walking, while Echo briefly spoke to Hunter, catching up in a few quick strides.
Deliberately slowing your pace, you extended the walk, cherishing the company a little longer. With the pastry forgotten in your hand, a rumble emanated from your stomach, prompting a sigh. "Do you want a bite?" You broke off a piece and offered it to Echo, but he politely declined.
"Ah, no thanks. I'm not too hungry at the moment," you replied, accepting Echo's polite refusal. The conversation continued effortlessly as you both walked, enjoying each other's company. However, your family's shop soon appeared in the distance.
"Well, thank you for walking me back, Echo," you smiled up at him, a glimmer of anticipation in your eyes, hoping to catch a glimpse of his behind the visor—alas, without success.
Echo paused, his posture shifting slightly. "I was actually wondering if you maybe wanted to get a bite to eat with me sometime? Maybe even tonight?"
Your eyes widened in happy surprise, and your voice held a hopeful tone. "Like a date?" You enjoyed your conversations with him and saw no reason not to get to know him better over a meal.
"Yes. Like a date," he confirmed, his confidence growing as he noticed the smile on your face.
"Okay, but I have one proposition," you started playfully, biting your lower lip.
Echo nodded, signaling for you to continue.
"Well, if I were to date someone, I would like to look at the person who I am going to be going out with beforehand," you spontaneously confessed, a hopeful grin on your lips.
Echo sighed inwardly, knowing this moment was inevitable sooner or later. He raised both hands towards his helmet, his left hand gripping underneath while his scomp provided support. "Alright, but I'm warning you now, I'm not much to look at," he warned earnestly before removing his helmet with a faint hiss.
You gazed up at him, pleasantly surprised. He had the features of a clone, yet distinct. His golden brown eyes drew you in, but you noticed his pale skin, not as tanned as usual and had odd bolt type modifications on his head that matches his buzzed hair. He had clearly been in some type of accident. Despite it all, you found him handsome—truly, utterly.
"Yes."
"Yes?" He looked at you, perplexed, his voice notably softer without the helmet.
"Yes, I will go on a date with you."
The date with Echo became one of your best experiences in a long time, if not ever. Exiting the restaurant, you both were clutching your chests, trying to stifle the laughter after Echo's reenactment of something his brother, Fives, once did.
Once the laughter subsided, you glanced at the sky and were surprised to notice how late it had become. "Guess we almost overstayed our welcome," you giggled, noticing the restaurant doors locking behind you.
"Maybe just," Echo chuckled, his helmet comfortably resting by his side. His expression shifted as he noticed his comm device beeping insistently.
"Everything alright?" you asked, curious about the sudden change.
"Yeah, it's just Hunter reminding me that we need to get somewhere early tomorrow, so I shouldn't be too late heading back," he explained softly, giving you an apologetic look. You both had contemplated going to a bar after leaving the restaurant, but you didn't want to be the reason Echo would be late for a mission the next day.
"Not to worry! We can maybe do this again… possibly?" You smiled up at him, hoping for another chance to see him.
"Sounds like another date to me." He smirked, extending his other arm. "Can I walk you home?"
You linked your arm with his, and the two of you headed in the direction of your apartment.
Outside your door, you paused, turning to face Echo, who stood somewhat awkwardly yet respectfully, observing you. "So… this is me," you gestured to your apartment behind you.
Echo nodded silently. Something in him, perhaps his growing comfort around you or the touch of alcohol from the night, led to his next words, setting your heart racing.
"I love your eyes."
His unexpected confession left you wide-eyed, your heart pounding fiercely.
"That's so sweet. Thank you, Echo," you barely whispered, flustered by his unexpectedly cute compliment. Even he blushed at his boldness.
As you reached down to grab your keys, from the corner of your eye, you noticed Echo drawing closer. Just as you raised your head to meet his gaze, his lips landed on yours in a surprising kiss.
Echo instantly stepped back, his eyes wide, almost horrified by his impulsive action. "Sorry! I, I thought you wanted a kiss on the cheek, but as I leaned in, I noticed you grabbing your keys, and you had obviously seen me coming, and I missed entirely—"
Your body felt ablaze as you listened to his endearing ramble. Taking a step toward him, you placed a hand on his shoulder before leaning in and pressing your lips gently against his, hoping you interpreted the situation correctly from tonight.
His rambling ceased, his body stiffening as your lips met. He hesitated for a moment before cautiously responding, his lips warm and gentle against yours. Though his eyes remained open, he didn't pull away as the kiss deepened, tentatively exploring the moment.
A few moments later, you pulled back, your faces still close. "You didn't miss… goodnight," you whispered, your breath brushing against his lips as you entered your apartment, leaving a momentous air lingering between you.

Before she even opened her eyes, she knew the suns were creeping in through the window, filling her small quarters with warmth. Underneath her head, she could feel a soft heartbeat and almost instantly began to smile.
How was she so...giddy? She hadn't felt this happy in so long---she thought happiness like this only faded as you grew up. But she had found it again.
How she had come to find him, she would never know. But she thanked the Force everyday that she did.
That day that they met played on repeat in her head sometimes...she had known his brother, Wrecker, and their small companion, Omega, from the many times they stopped by her fruit stand in the marketplace of Ord Mantell. They were always kind to her, and she enjoyed their company immensely.
But then one day, they brought another soldier--this one paler and smaller with a gaunt face and machinery wired into his head. He looked out of place around so many people rushing by, but he held tight to little Omega's hand. As soon as his warm, brown eyes met her gaze and he smiled at her...as soon as he nodded at her and addressed her as ma'am? She knew she was done for.
After weeks of "chance" encounters and run-ins that turned into hours of conversation and laughter, she looked up while working and saw Omega dragging him by his scomp link towards her stand.
Omega greeted the girl curtly and pushed Echo towards the stand, saying only, "my brother has a question for you." She had walked off to another storefront then, leaving the girl alone with him.
"Good morning, Echo. Everything alright?"
"Good morning," he said as he looked down at the ground beneath his feet. And then the rest just spilled out. "I was uhh...I was wondering if maybe you'd like to get a drink at Cid's tonight." A beat, as he decided he should make himself more clear. "With me."
She remembered the way her stomach turned at the question; she couldn't even be embarrassed at how quickly she said yes.
They drank and they talked and they laughed and she felt there was no way someone more incredible than him existed anywhere else in the whole galaxy.
At the end of the night, he kissed her on the cheek and smiled at her.
She'd asked, "is that it?"
He'd had the sweetest look of confusion on his face; she grabbed the top of his blacks and pulled him in for a kiss she swore could have lasted forever.
And that was how it started.
She opened her eyes slowly and turned to place a kiss on Echo's chest; he was completely at peace in his sleep. All she wanted was to lay beside him and look at him forever.
Echo's eyes slowly fluttered open, his arm tightening around the girl's waist. He tilted his head downwards towards her and gave her a sleepy smile.
"Good morning, mesh'la," she said in a sing-song voice as she placed another kiss to his chest and began working her way up his neck to his jaw. As she placed a kiss on the corner of his lip, she felt it turn upwards into a smile.
"I don't think that word means what you think it means," he laughed quietly.
"I know what it means," she feigned indignation as he kissed her forehead gently. She sat herself up then, her bare chest grazing his as she moved her face up to be level with his. "It means beautiful." She kissed him now, slowly pushing her tongue into his mouth and swallowing the sweetest moan from him. "You're beautiful, my Echo."
She went to kiss him again but he stopped her, cupping her cheek with his hand. His eyes had a certain shocked look to them and he shook his head as he stroked his finger across her face.
"Say it again."
He took her by surprise then, flipping her over and caging her in. He slowly began kissing his way down her neck, stopping at her right breast and running his tongue carefully over her raised nipple.
She gasped as her head fell back, closing her eyes and giving in to the feeling. He stopped and looked up at her with a serious look.
"I said," his hand was moving along her stomach now and coming dangerously close to her thigh, "say it again." He slipped his hand in between her legs, stopping abruptly and teasing her as he took her nipple back into his mouth.
"You are beautiful," she whispered wanting him more and more with every passing second.
He stopped his movements again and she groaned. "Not that." He looked up to her expectantly.
She understood then.
His hand slowly made its way closer to her core, where she wanted him most. She moved a hand down to rest on the back of his head and stared at him.
He was perfect. His existence, his will to survive, his unbroken soul was a miracle to her. And she meant it when she said it.
Pairing: Roan X Echo Requested: Yes Warnings: there's a fight scene A/N: This is set before Roan is banished from ice nation so he's still technically the prince. I've never written a specific ship before so I hope you enjoy!! Word Count: 1160 ------------------------------------------------ Echo walked into the throne room in Ice Nation's capital to find Roan running fighting drills by himself. His shirtless body moved effortlessly back and forth in attacking and defensive maneuvers. Standing at the entry way, silently waiting for him to acknowledge her presence, she drank in the glorious sight of his glistening body. "Echo," Roan's voice broke her out of her trance like state. "My prince, you called for me," she said dropping to one knee with a fist over her heart. "Stand up," his tone was firm, he was not in a patient mood today. Echo rose to her feet, watching as he walked over to the basin of water sitting against the wall to her left. He dipped his hands into the water, then splashed it against his face, washing away the lingering sweat. "I brought you in here because many of the warriors have been talking about you." Oh no, Echo thought, nothing good could come out of this. She was the toughest fighter in her class, she could best any of the guys in almost all categories. Too bad this wasn't what she was known for. Instead it was the trickery and deceit she tapped into to get her where she wanted to go. Her willingness to do whatever it took to rise to the top left her without friends and being hated by the other recruits. Echo was sure she was about to be told to leave azgeda and never come back. "And what have they been saying my prince?" Echo's voice showed no fear, even though her stomach was tied in knots. Ever so slowly Roan made his way toward her, one foot taking one long stride in front of the other, the fear he was striking in her was deliberate. He wanted to test her. "Well, from what I've heard, you're not one to play by the rules," he circled her now, like a lion closing in on its prey. "I do what it takes to get the job done," luckily Echo's voice doesn't betray her, and holds a steady, smooth sound. "Really? For someone so small it's hard to picture you doing anything evil," before she can even think about it Echo senses something's changed. Roan's steps have stopped and he's now behind her. The sound of a knife being unsheathed is barely audible but she picks it up. She's careful not to change her body language so Roan is unaware that she knows he's planning a surprise attack. Roan's presence is suddenly closer and she shifts her weight, ready to dodge his oncoming attack. A quick step to the right allows for her to miss the knife's thrust aimed at her shoulder. Echo drops to the ground in a roll to further the distance between her and the prince. If it's a fight he wants then it's a fight he'll get. Pulling out the blade she always carries in her boot she takes on an offensive position, eager to prove herself. He has a slightly impressed look on his face but it's quickly wiped away, a calculating warrior takes its place. Roan charges. Instincts take control of Echo's movements as she slides under his outstretched arm and slices a thin cut across his thigh. She makes sure not to hit anything fatal, just something that'll be painful and slow him down. Before she can even regain her footing a blade lands in the wall right next to her head. Swinging around to face Roan she sees the sword he was practicing with earlier in his grip. She steadies her breathing, running through attack strategies in her head. A knife isn't going to win this fight she realizes. Looking around the room she notices there aren't any other overt weapons lying around. She'll have to repurpose what's in the room if she wants to win she decides. Looking to her left she notices a broom leaning against the wall. Roan has begun slowly stringing toward her again, it's obvious he wants to see what she'll come up with in a time sensitive situation. Grabbing the broom she breaks off the end so she now has a pole to defend herself with. It's not enough, but at least it's something. Roan's blade swings forward, while dodging it Echo throws her knife at his stomach. It misses, instead of getting lodged inside of him it just grazes his side. The swords blade comes down across her shoulder leaving a gash from one collarbone to the other, luckily it isn't deep. Bringing the pole up the sword clashes against the thick wood cutting it in half. A deep chuckle leaves Roan's lips as your stick drops to the ground in two pieces. "Did you really think you were going to win with that?" He asks while bringing his sword behind him ready to give the final blow. "No, but it was a good distraction," a smirks graces Echo's lips as a look of confusion washes over Roan's features. Suddenly Echo kicks the sword from his hands, then reaches behind her to pull out one of the many concealed knives she keeps on herself. Lunging at him she knocks him to the ground and holds the knife against his throat. "So, did I win?" The overconfidence she's known for is clear in Echo's voice, she keeps herself firmly planted on top of Roan making sure he's unable to escape. "Am I dead?" His answer shocks her and she lets her guard down for a fraction of a second, but that's all he needs. He flips them over so Echo is now pinned underneath him. He holds her hands above her head, and her legs are secured under his, the knife strewn across the floor. "You're too confident in a fight, you think you know everything-- but you don't. You overestimate your abilities claiming to be the best when you leave weak spots open. The quick thinking you possess won't always save you, one day you'll end up like this, only with a much less forgiving foe," Roan's words were quiet, the truth behind the statement was jarring. All Echo could do was stare at him, soaking up every word. "I'm- I'm sorry," it's the only thing she can think of to say, she's supposed to be the best of the best but she can't even hold her own for more than five minutes with the prince. "Don't. Apologizing will get you nowhere. Instead learn from this, and be better the next time I see you," and with that Roan gets up leaving a speechless Echo on the floor. Echo takes those words to heart, and the next time she saw him she won. She took him by surprise by kissing him in the middle of battle, he had her pressed against the wall, thinking he'd won again. But by the time he realized what was happening she'd already disarmed him and was in full control.
“the first initial kiss being a simple peck, then they immediately go back in for a stronger, more passionate one.”

You’d gotten quite used to seeing them in Cid’s parlor – a motley crew of bounty hunters or mercenaries or whatever they were. You probably should have known the specifics by now, but they didn’t like to talk about work. And you weren’t paid to talk, you were paid to deliver things without asking questions. So when you found yourself lingering more and more often, lost in conversation with one in particular, you began to wonder if he would be bad for business. Yet somehow, you didn’t care.
Echo was a complete and total enigma – brave and cynical while also radiating warmth and integrity. You had so many questions that you held back, mostly because it wasn’t entirely polite to ask someone you just met why virtually half their body was cybernetic. So you stuck to the usual topics for a while: the local scene of Ord Mantell, the scum and villainy that was everywhere to be found, and random thoughts about the state of the galaxy.
Before long, you were surprised to notice how much you looked forward to your courier assignments that brought you into his vicinity, and you found more and more excuses to have extra time there. Instead of lurking around the other hot spots of underworld business dealings to pick up additional jobs, you’d take him up on his offer for a game of darts or a mug of disgustingly cheap beer in a corner booth. It became difficult to deny the sinking feeling in your heart when you trotted down the stairs into Cid’s and the team was absent on a mission.
But tonight, you were fortunate. The place was bustling – a whole new gang was in town, it seemed, and they were getting along well with the other less-than-respectable locals. The parlor was loud and lively, making it difficult to hear Echo over the incessant talking, scuffling, laughter, and shouting of all the patrons. His squad was enjoying a much-needed day off, scattered about the planet on their own pursuits of refreshment. Tech was working on the ship, Crosshair was seeking blissful solitude somewhere, and Hunter went with Wrecker and Omega on a Mantell Mix pursuit thinly disguised as a supply run.
Echo had chosen to stay here, and you were trying not to read too much into it. But the conversation had been particularly open and honest tonight, and your head was buzzing with the excitement of connection and the general joviality of the bar. Your mouth hung open slightly as he finished his story, finally filling in all of the details of how he had come to be what and where he was. The last vestiges of pain was receding from his face after having recounted his entire horrid ordeal, and you couldn’t help but place a hand over his after he downed the rest of his drink and slapped the glass on the table. The sudden intimacy caught his attention, and his pale brown eyes were large as he regarded you beneath the bluish glow of the neon lights.
“Sorry,” you said quickly, pulling your hand back. “I just… can’t believe it all. You’ve been through so much.” Your words fell out quickly as you tried to move past the potentially awkward moment, but Echo stared at the table, at his own hand where yours had rested just a moment ago.
“Yeah,” he said absently, not meeting your gaze. “Not how I would have scripted it, that’s for sure.” He appeared to be deep in thought, sharp brows drawing together over his luminous eyes. When he finally did look up, he appeared to be brimming with something… a question, a realization… and he slowly opened his mouth to speak.
CRASH!
A glass bottle shattered against the wall above the two of you, causing you to yelp and fling your arms over your head as liquid and pieces rained down. The table scraped loudly as Echo flew to his feet, hawkishly raking his eyes over the crowd. But there was no question where the disturbance had come from – a brawl had broken out across the room, and the shouting was growing louder as two entire groups immediately jumped into a conflict started by just two individuals.
“Let’s get out of here,” you said urgently, pulling on his arm as you stood beside him. You knew when it was wise to make yourself scarce after having been caught in the crossfire more often than you’d like. These sorts of crowds were irrationally unpredictable and predictably irrational. Echo cast you a glance for a moment before turning back to the aggravated group, keeping his eye on them as they swung at each other and crashed into tables nearby. He seemed torn, giving you a quick nod but then muttering under his breath.
“They’re gonna tear the whole place up…”
Cid was nowhere to be seen, and other patrons were being dragged into the fight as it grew and grew. Tables were turning, glasses smashing, and it was all threatening to melt into utter chaos when suddenly a series of live blaster bolts exploded against the ceiling in rapid-fire succession. It was enough noise and light to catch everyone’s attention for a moment, allowing for a very temporary pause as Echo’s voice boomed across the room.
“Get out!” he shouted, standing on the seat next to you, blasters in hand. “Take this kriffing garbage somewhere else!” You were in shock, watching the various reactions across the faces before you. A good few of them took the opportunity to do just that, making their getaway before it escalated any further. But a few hard-headed beefcakes threw a couple more punches before advancing toward Echo.
“Come on,” you said fearfully, pulling at his arm again as he stepped down beside you in a wide, prepared stance.
“Yeah, listen to your tasty little friend,” the leader of the group teased, “Or we might have to teach both of you a lesson.” Echo bristled, head lowering slightly, and you could feel the rage emanating off of him.
“Don’t,” you pleaded, feeling frantic.
“Can’t turn away now,” Echo responded without looking away from the few hooligans with smug grins on their faces, drawing closer with every step. Your heart was pounding in your chest, mouth completely dry at the thought of him getting hurt, even though you knew he put his life on the line on a regular basis. You began looking around for something, anything that might change the course of action. But then it all happened at once.
Two of them leapt at Echo simultaneously, but his quick dodge left them running into each other. He rushed the third with his head down, plowing into his chest and smashing him into the wall behind. His head cracked against the stone loudly, and he sank to the floor unconscious. The others were back on their feet though, fists swinging in messy anger. Echo blocked one punch, landing a blow of his own and spinning the assailant to twist his arm up behind his back before squeezing the trigger on his blaster to hit the other one squarely in the chest with a bright blue stun ray.
A squawk of pain escaped the first and he dropped his weight to the side, pulling Echo down with him as he freed his arm. He leapt up in a flash, aiming a kick that caught Echo in the ribs as he scrambled to his own feet. The sound was sickening, and the breathless grunt that left his lips made you feel his pain in your own stomach. But he moved impossibly fast, ducking another swing and landing a rapid one-two punch that had his opponent spinning. A quick lean followed by a powerful kick sent the other man crashing through another table where he landed in a crumpled heap on the ground, unmoving except for the occasional squirm.
Echo was breathing hard, looking around quickly at any other potential attackers. But the rest of the crowd had either cleared out or was composed of the few remaining stragglers that were doing their best to maintain the semblance of normalcy as they drinked and chatted uneasily. He clutched a hand to his ribs, wincing with a scowl on his face, and you were by his side in an instant.
“It’s fine,” he said automatically as you touched his shoulder, face radiating concern and affection that you just couldn’t hide anymore. You were relieved that he was alright, and as your pulse slowly returned to normal, you realized you were also completely in awe of his capability in a way that felt like more than just… awe… You were trying to find the words
But you were interrupted by an angry-sounding tromping down the stairs from the street above, a sickening feeling rising in your stomach. As you saw a whole group of those same troublemakers from before, you realized who was associated with whom, and it was definitely time to go. You grabbed Echo’s arm, pulling him with surprising force toward Cid’s office. As he assessed the situation, you could see the indignation and anger on his face, but he ultimately allowed you to pull him away. When the office door whooshed shut behind you, you frantically tapped on the keypad to lock it from the inside.
“I know you could take them all,” you began, turning around to face him. He was standing, but leaning on the edge of Cid’s desk, face grumpy as he rubbed a hand across his ribs. “But it’s not worth it. There’s an endless supply of idiocy like that around here – you’re going to put a target on your back.”
“It’s just ridiculous that–” came his angry reply, but you stepped closer, cupping his cheek with a suddenness that surprised yourself.
“I know,” you repeated, softly this time as his exhilarating proximity registered in your brain and body. “Sorry…” you admitted, casting about for words, “I just…” You faltered, trying to explain something you were only just now fully realizing for yourself. “Are your ribs broken?”
The change of subject took his attention for a moment, and he felt the ridges and grooves with tentative fingers. He breathed in slowly, flinching when his lungs expanded to a certain point, and slowly let it out, raising his eyes to yours. “Maybe a little crack,” he said, the bitterness in his voice unfettered by the waves of pain.
“You get into fights often?” you asked, lowering your hand from his cheek to rest on his shoulder.
“Not if I don’t have to,” he answered, and you arched an eyebrow in response. “Alright, I know I didn’t have to say anything, but… it’s just not right…” His mutter trailed off as he shrugged, turning away in what might have been shame. You felt your heart swell in your chest at his sense of integrity, trying to find words to express it without completely giving away the depth of your feelings, but the beep of his comm interrupted your search.
Havoc 4, come in.
He pulled it from his belt, lifting it to his mouth with an apologetic glance to you. “Go ahead.”
There appears to be a significant disturbance in the area of Cid’s parlor, according to the local surveillance network. What is your location?
“Yeah, there was a bar fight, Tech. It’s fine, it’s over now.”
That is not what I asked.
“I’m at Cid’s,” Echo snapped, rolling his eyes at the pert voice on the line. “I told you, it’s fine.”
The comm was silent for a moment, and you met Echo’s gaze with a small, compassionate smile.
Understood. The ship is located in its usual docking bay, should anyone there require medical attention.
A click and a beep signaled the disconnect, and the smirk on Echo’s face had you puzzled for a moment.
“What?” you asked, unable to hold it back.
“‘S just karking annoying when he knows more than he should,” he grumbled, though his eyes were sparkling with amusement. He sighed, looking up at you as though he were fully realizing your softness, your lingering touches, and your blatant concern and admiration. He opened his mouth for a moment as though trying to decide what to say, then slowly closed it, regarding you evenly. You swallowed, suddenly wildly aware of every single muscle in your body, and tried to arrange your features into a neutral expression.
“”What?” Now it was his turn to ask, a tiny smirk playing at the corner of his lips as he tilted his head at you.
“What?” you echoed, eyes wide and innocent as you looked at him with the look of one accused.
“What… uh… What are you… so concerned… about?” The smirk was fading into a slight insecurity of his own. You took a deep breath, cheeks flushed red as your heart continued to race. Something about the thrill of it all and the sudden vulnerability in this private room had you reeling, with long-restrained feelings brimming at the surface and threatening to spill over.
“You,” you whispered, lowering your eyes and chewing on your thumb nail. “I care… about you.”
His own heart skipped a beat at your admission – something he had suspected, no – hoped for – yet felt entirely unworthy to believe. He rose to his feet, a cringe flashing across his face before he became still again, staring intently at your eyes. “You do?” he asked, voice husky and quiet now, disarmed entirely.
His tone was soothing and inviting, and the thinly-veiled vulnerability was entirely irresistible. Buoyed by the adrenaline of the evening and the thrill of the situation before you, you took a step closer, lifting your other hand to rest on his chest. Leaning in slightly, you touched your forehead to his, smiling at his sharp inhale and the subsequent closing of his eyes that completely melted your heart. You were helplessly entranced, and you brushed your fingers along his jaw before resting them on the back of his shoulder as you pulled yourself close.
Your lips met with a feather-light touch that sent sparks flying immediately. Your heart thrilled at the sensation, body exploding with euphoric tingles, and you pulled back quickly, keeping your foreheads together but remaining frozen in joyous disbelief otherwise. He let out a slow breath, as if soaking up every single second, then stepped back a few inches, opening his eyes to gaze at you in awe and disbelief and wonder and delight.
“Sorry if that was… uh…” you began, but he shook his head immediately, curling his fingers gently under your chin and touching the pad of his thumb to your lips to silence the rest.
“It wasn’t,” he said, eyes intent. “Unless… It was a mistake, or–”
“No no no,” you laughed, standing slightly straighter as he dropped his hand from your lips to your waist. “Why would it be a mistake?” He shrugged, casting his gaze off to the side with a sudden expression of sheepish disdain that you were wildly curious. Giving him a slight nudge, you pressed, “Echo?”
“I don’t know,” he grumbled, unwillingly meeting your eyes. “I just… didn’t think people saw me that way…” He fell silent, the magnitude of his words settling on your heart, heavy with compassion. You stepped back in, nestling yourself against his chest, and brushed your lips against his cheek as you whispered near his ear.
“Let me show you how I see you.”
In an uncharacteristic burst of courage, you looped both arms around his neck, bringing your lips to his with ardent intentionality. He stiffened for a split second before relaxing into your embrace, sliding his own arm around your waist and digging the other into your hair at the base of your neck. You felt as though you could swoon as he held you so effortlessly, and you tilted your head as you moved your mouth against his, deepening the kiss with a whisper-soft sigh. You could hear his heart pounding in his chest as you rested a hand on it, feeling relieved that it matched your own frantic pulse rate.
You kissed again and again, changing the angle, adding the tiny stroke of a tongue or the hungry tug of a lip. He seemed to grow before you, his presence expanding with an alluring mix of dumbfounded surprise that framed a strength, resolve, and passion that made your knees weak. His hands roved gently across your body, caressing you against him as his open--mouthed kisses grew messier. The sensation of his lips on yours, his taste filling your mind and sparkling with the sensation of his hands gliding along your skin… you had a fleeting concern that you may have died and gone to heaven.
But the dreamy reverie was broken suddenly as he pulled back, breathing hard and sucking in air as though his life depended on it. He drew the back of one hand across his mouth, one last shuddering breath escaping before he settled into a quiet, blissful smile.
“Didn’t think people saw you that way…” you scoffed in playful jest, shaking your head in utter disbelief.
“Well, I’ve been somewhat convinced that it’s untrue,” he returned evenly, the suggestive smolder in his gaze sending a warmth blossoming between your legs.
“Only somewhat?: you repeated with a grin.
“Somewhat,” he answered, cupping your face and leaning in again.
