bro... *sniffles*...... i just got a trust event with yuzuha & anby at lumina square that i've never seen before. it's just like, emotional and endearing and... a nice surprise?

they were both part of programs that sacrificed people to get the optimal research subject/product, where everyone else they knew died. they both have no memory of their pasts (specific reasons for anby, as a clone), and managed to escape the programs despite being the most promising ones.

and they now choose to just enjoy life in "silly"/simplistic ways, specifically because their lives before were so horrifying. yuzuha is a prankster and joker, and anby loves watching movies and eating burgers.

sometimes i think back on this line from twiggy:

"We should be eating burgers, watching movies, working a job, and going on dates... Instead of being maimed, sold, tortured, and struggling to survive."

that shit hit hard. and honestly, i struggled to get anby's side at first (the entire story was a lot to process first time around).

but this trust event... i think i get it a little bit more now.

Opinions on green burger woman

Anby Demara is a queen. She is adorable, reliable, and just a bit goofy. Her dead-pan, dry way of giving her opinions and the facts about a situation are endearing. I wish the way Reality and Movies blended together in her mind came up more often, it’s an intriguing character trait that has a lot of potential.

But she’s also a coward.

I understand WHY she’s done what she’s done, but I disagree with a lot of her opinions on herself, and her life, and some of her Choices.

She claims that her and her sisters were Evil Incarnate, and it’s easy to see why - They were Disposable, and made expressly to be less than Human. Treated that way. Her life was never meant to be her Own, and I think she still believes that, that her Loyalty is not for her sake, but in a way of Paying off a Debt. Nicole Gave her her current life, and so Anby is bound to Nicole.

But also Anby’s wrong.

Her and her sisters Aren’t evil incarnate, they were made for a very good purpose, with the most noble purpose one could have, to lay down their lives so others could be safe - but they were made too human, too thoughtful, too kind and empathetic. An Evil thing would be Selfish, take joy in suffering. Even if those who made Silver Soldiers were evil, the Silver Soldiers themselves were good. The Tech that made them isn’t evil, It’s a tool, the same way a hammer is a tool, the same way a Scalpel is a tool, the same way a Gun is a tool. It’s an ambivalent object, devoid of morality, but all tools have an inherent danger to them, and if used improperly, or with Ill intent, then that tool may seem evil.

Anby and her sisters were good. The Tech that made them was powerful, and even if Twiggy was doing morally wrong things, evil things, it brought good into the world - there are InterKnot posts about Organ Donations saving lives.

The most evil thing Anby has done is keep the truth from Soldier 11. Anby knew Soldier 11 would forget, and in her fear, in her cowardice, she let Soldier 11 believe she was abandoned. Alone. Forgotten, and without purpose beyond being a soldier, believing herself to be so devoid of Humanity and the gifts of humanity that she has no name anymore.

And it’s evil and cruel for Anby to let that be.

I love Anby. She’s cute, she’s adorable, she’s funny and badass.

But she’s wrong about her sister. Soldier 11 has just as much, if not more of a right to the Truth of Anby’s sacrifice than anyone, because Soldier 11 has suffered more for it than Anby.

Soldier 11 is Sodium or Lithium; Reactive, chaotic, powerful, but in need of more, in need of something to temper and balance herself out - S11 is powered and carried by her rage and defection towards Anby. S11 really only gets a true taste of humanity from Phaethon.

I suppose, in a way, that S11’s view of Anby is true - Anby Abandoned her. Left her and Silver Company. Perhaps not in the way S11 believes, but it is not the farthest from the truth.

But in the end, History is a Tool.

And Anby is wielding it with intent to protect herself.

I do believe if Anby really understood S11's struggles, Anby would tell the truth, but until then, Anby will let S11 hate her, because Anby is terrified of- well you get it if you played Echos of Silver.

I know you asked specifically about Anby, but this has been on my mind so I had to talk about it, plus it’s difficult for me to speak about Anby and all my thoughts on her without bring up her past, and her treatment of S11.

Also I have a Headcanon that the Hum Anby does is a Rythmic Mnemonic Key, that, when played at a certain frequency and paired with a certain Olfactory sensation, can allow someone to change parts of Silver Soldier mental conditioning - such as removing the Amnesia caused by heavy injury.

1) i like this, a lot actually. XD even without having the hug! 2) i am however having trouble visualizing anybody getting a truck into the slums so Aerith could walk out of the church and get into it.

You... are probably quite right. Let’s say for the sake of aesthetic that for this one fic, that area of the slums has just enough space that a truck could, in theory, get both in and out.

I did not catch this on first draft because a) there was no second draft, and b) I actually wrote the whole thing in the time before and after we were due to have someone over briefly who I don’t actually like; I started it, they came, I got grumpy and annoyed, they left, I didn’t feel comfortable enough to go looking for references which might take a while.

Also I still would quite like to write a hug between those two.

I have already started having ideas for other things that could be happening in this AU (aside from and including the ones that didn’t make it to the first minific.)
