Mechanic Cayde AU is.... Horny AU...
YOU KNOW THIS!!!! THIS IS LITERALLY ALL I TALK ABOUT WITH YOU!!!
But since we're here, let's do this.
Mechanic Cayde (MC6) is an AU where Cayde just... Isn't a Guardian. He's an old-ass, jaded mechanic who tries to retain a bit of a joking personality, but his heart just isn't in it, either.
Andal is alive and Hunter Vanguard, and my Young Wolf plays sort of a game with him -- a back and forth of "If I kill Taniks, you're Vanguard now." The problem for Andal is that my Guardian is VERY good a yoinking the final blow, and no one wants her as Vanguard. So people may or may not tip her off every time Andal tries to sneak away to kill the big, undying merc. So Andal is perpetually stuck with Vanguard, and the one time he gets to kill Taniks? Well, it only lasts a week.
Andal also tries to wingman for my Guardian, which results in Cayde being unsure if the Hunter Vanguard is hitting on him, or if Andal is into the YW.
Back to Cayde.
He's old, he's tired, but still working away when he meets my YW. They spend some initial time together with him helping her on her sparrow, because she's NOT mechanically inclined, despite being a Hunter.
She's a bit silly, and very honest, and it breathes some life back into him. He starts watching Crucible matches (something he was staunchly against watching for a while -- said it reminded him of the dark ages) after she asks him if he'll watch her match. It's different than what he remembered, with teams coming together at the end, talking and laughing while Shaxx does the final announcements. He starts to enjoy life in the City more, and listens to her stories, and works on making some of his own for when she gets back.
He unwittingly takes her on a date to a nice little ramen shop he saw recommended on Last City Yelp!.
Life's starting to get a little better, and then a group of refugees comes in. Cayde just so happens to be around when a little blonde girl with a red scarf, and clutching a shotgun somethin' fierce catches his eye.
Amanda had just lost her parents, and, well, he'd been a dad once before. He doesn't mean to, but like most things in his life, he finds himself in the middle of adopting her before he really has time to stop and think.
So suddenly he's a lead mechanic in the Hangar, he's got a batshit insane godslaying Guardian gf, and now he's an adopted dad.
Just a normal day for Mechanic Cayde 6.

its been a bit of a common theme of cayde being really confused throughout the entirety of the au so i feel almost reluctant to say hes like ?????? HUH at mara still being alive but he is ,, but not without being snarky about it
just because mostly everyone was convinced mara was kablootsky💥 its shocking at first whereas in the normal timeline pex is just like “oh okay we’re doing this now” and bowing immediately when contacting the queen through the oracle -- of course cayde DOESNT do that and his first instinct is to make joke about mara being alive
and mara absolutely does not approve of this lol ! its a bitter back and forth from there on out when the queen admits that her plan with uldren wasnt supposed to end in one of ‘her’ lightbearers demise. which rightfully pisses cayde off ! honestly im a big fan of the MCs of destiny being enemies of everyone so thats the gist of the au !
the only people cayde really gets along with are his friends in the tower but he still has friendly fun with those he doesnt really like ! its just who he is :]
